Didn't they say that by putting them up now instead of in November they'll save something like £400K of council money ? In that case, why not just leave them up all year ?

They might have said that, but they didn't justify why it did.

Was at an event in a hotel near Oxford last weekend, and they had a christmas tree up, lights on and everything.

I was just watching this on BBC news and there was some old bint defending it saying that the christmas lights can be used for other religious festivals too? It must be a running joke that she hasn't clicked on yet...

It's depressing. I don't want to hear about Christmas until 1st December personally.

Ramadan starts this week are you sure they are not just getting ready to celebrate Eid.

This is what we have 'up north' same lights up for Eid, Diwali, and festive lights (Christmas).

They arent 'christmas lights', they are 'festival lights'. There are a number of religious significant events/festivals approaching. They are for those.

Just aint you're religion, thats all.

Nothing like a christion country anymore.... frown

Does the lefty council there have plans to rename Eid and Diwali to make them more inclusive/ inoffensive, too ?

I think that's a catch 22 situation. If you're a God botherer, you're supposed to love your neighbour, so presumably shouldn't be objecting to other religions using the lights for their festivals. If you're not a God botherer, why would you care?
