I'm looking for a dog, been scouring adverts on the net. It seems that 90% of the adverts on some websites are scams. I replied to one that seemed to be 'real', i.e. good grammar, none of this 'these puppies will forever be yours and will touched your heart longtime' rubbish. Anyway, here's the email I've just received in response.

''Hello Dear

have . We have Males and Females puppies now available and they are 11
weeks old and weight 13pounds, they have very good
temperament with kids and other pets, very playful love to play around

we keep thinking of her .So we want to given them out

....why not just do yourself and a dog a favour....go to Battersea Dogs Home or similar.....there are masses of dogs out there "begging" for a good home.

.....you know it makes sense.....

It stinks all over of a scam.

In future I'll always rescue (had a rescue dog in the past), but right now I'm looking for small breeds of dog that are 'desirable'(chihuahua/papillon), and these rarely end up in rescue homes.

Just sounds like a typical, loony dog breeder to me.

OP, I can give you the number of a Chi breeder we acquired our Blue from if you like? She's strange, make no mistake, but does actually exist biggrin

Wouldn't be buying a dog off tinternet.... why not look in local papers where you can visit the dogs' home? Or if you're after a specific breed, see if there's a rescue site for that type of dog.

That advert does not read right at all - my alarm bell's ringing too.

Thanks for the offer but I'm looking for a cross or an older chihuahua...purebred puppies are so expensive!

Here are a few things that are dodgy -

-an 11 week old papillon will be nowhere near 13lbs

-the advertiser's mum has died

-Puppies are located somewhere distant and need delivery - no doubt pay before they ship - no puppy turns up!

-Uses language like 'shots' and 'veterinarian' - no doubt been looking on websites to find things to put in the advert

It's just all too fluffy, and a purebred Papillon puppy for £150 - no way!
Poor language so obviously foreign...definitely won't be responding to this one!

I always go to rescue homes & ask to see the dogs that have been there the longest & pick one of those! They always end up being the most loyal, best friends anyone could wish for!

It sounds like its been written by an Eastern European, in my experience they use a lot of words like that as its the closest translation they know.

I will! When I've finished uni I'd love big dogs - a rescue greyhound, a springer spaniel, an alsation and more! Just want a very small dog for now, and as I said before, they don't tend to turn up in rescue homes.

I think it would be worth doing a little test, ''my cousin lives near you, he said he'd be happy to pop over and check out these pups, what's your address/phone number?''.

You'd be surprised Lucie. Quite often 'older' people go for small dogs as they are less hassle (eg easier to walk etc); but when the owner moves on from their current accommodation the new acoommodation won't take the dog too (ie old people home, hospital, coffin), so the dogs end up in the Dogs Home.
