I'm looking to book a mini-break in mid-September for my wife and I and am having trouble choosing a destination.

We've always fancied a driving trip around southern Spain (Malaga, Cordoba, Granada).

But wife, however, is keen on Amalfi coast.

Spain appeals to me as I think it won't be as polluted with tourists as that part of Italy we are going to. Andalucia offers alot more in history and arcitecture too. Amalfi coast has a reputation for being quite expensive too.

Appreciate any thoughts on these two destinations.

I would also welcome any other destinations in Italy, Spain or France (it has to be one of these 3).

Your remark about a lot more in history in Spain is way off the mark!!!!

Depends what you want - Amalfi is a great destination, with a certain cache. Spain is Spain...

For other destinations in Italy - the lakes: Como, Garde, Lugano...

Okay then, back to square one!

The choices, for this 3-day trip in mid-September, are;

Driving trip in Andalucia (fly into Malaga),
Amalfi Coast (fly into Naples),
The Italian Lakes (fly into Milan).

We want a bit of culture thrown in with the natural sights and I think this is where Andalucia edges it. Amalfi Coast doesn't seem to offer the range.

Any comments?
