As a huge Hamilton fan i am happy that they are finally getting to grips with the car they brought this year. Does anyone think that Button might not win the Driver's Championship this year? I suppose as a British person i should be routing for him and Brawn but i quite like Vettel for it this year.
I think that McLaren could dominate the remaining part of this season with the rest of the track showing good promise for KERS. Just wondering if anyone else is hoping Hamilton starts sticking it to the rest of them again?
Cheers.

I never heard that, is it RedBull that run Ferrari gear? I suppose they will have the option to buy Ferrari' KERS device. It is amazing how McLaren have turned around such a bad car...

to be fair, it looks more like they have designed a new one, a massive achievement in the timeframe with zero testing.

Ye i suppose it was a ground up thing, is it just Hamilton that is running the new shorter wheel base. Watching it today in Quali i didn't here anything about the replacement nose that he damaged in that tyre bump.

This turnaround was almost expected. They did such a good job turning around their car in '04, that the second time around it is less surprising. Tangent to their car performance, Whitmarsh seems to be on a political campaign announcing a change of form, as well. It was refreshing to hear him say, "Sometimes we've been too arrogant." That statement of self-awareness certainly helped dull some of the annoyance their attitude has caused me from time to time.

It is a possibility for him to win the championship (mathematically), but so unlikely if you crunch the numbers of what would have to happen

I am a McLaren and Brawn fan so I am hoping for a happy end to the year!!

your not wrong, button would need to be below 5th for the remaining races and 7th for one of them (if I have my maths right!) yes, it's very unlikely, but stranger things have happened...

Out of interest, what would the general view of Hamilton be if he managed it?

Driving God!

Seriously though he is a fantastic driver, perhaps one of thee very best. but surely it would be more that Jenson would have to throw it away or have seriously bad luck, it is really his to lose surely...

If the dwarf that is little Bern reads this thread, he'll now be thinking how can I create such an ending to the current F1 season scratchchin

With all the st that's gone on this year, he'd love to orchestrate that scenario towards the end of the season without doubt yes

Sorry a little O/T, but here's the autosport report regarding RB Kers:

Autosport said:
Red Bull considering KERS for Spa

By Jonathan Noble Saturday, August 22nd 2009, 12:07 GMT

Red Bull Racing is considering introducing KERS from the Belgian Grand Prix in a bid to boost its world championship ambitions, AUTOSPORT can reveal.

With the Milton Keynes-based outfit locked in a close fight with Brawn GP for the title, the team is now undergoing a detailed investigation into whether fast-tracking KERS onto the car for next weekend's race at Spa-Francorchamps will give it an advantage.

Although earlier this season it appeared that F1 was shying away from KERS, the role the regenerative energy devices played in Lewis Hamilton's recent Hungarian GP victory has forced a rethink.

And Red Bull's team principal Christian Horner has confirmed to AUTOSPORT that a decision will be made in the next few days about what to do for Spa - where KERS is expected to produce a considerable benefit.

"We continue to evaluate KERS on an ongoing basis," he explained. "Obviously KERS' performance at the last race and probably here are making an obvious benefit, so it is something we have not abandoned for this year.

"We have the system there and are evaluating the system on a race-by-race basis."

When asked what the chances were of Red Bull giving KERS the green light for a shock introduction in Belgium, Horner said: "We will evaluate it after this weekend."

AUTOSPORT understands that Red Bull Racing is the only team that is transporting its cars back to its factory in between the European Grand Prix and Belgium next weekend.

Should Red Bull Racing give the green light to KERS then it could swing the world championship momentum in its favour – as Brawn GP has ruled out being able to run the technology this year.

Team principal Ross Brawn told AUTOSPORT: "Due to the modifications we had to do to the car to fit the engine, we piled a lot of weight into it and we do not have the weight capacity to run KERS. So unfortunately it is not an option for us."

When asked how decisive the KERS factor could be, especially with tracks like Spa and Monza coming up on the calendar, he said: "If it catches fire it could be completely bad for them. It is quite a challenge to introduce it in the middle of the season with no testing."

He'd go up in my estimation, but by how much would depend on how close to his performance Kovalinen's was. if they both go up by similar amounts then it would be because the engineers at McLaren have improved the car, if hamilton is far and away better than Kovalinen then it will be due to him............given the gap between him and Kovalinen today is less than the theoretical differing performance of SWB & LWB McLarens I'm sorry to say that so far it looks like the engineers are winning rather than the driver

Hamilton is already better than Kovalinen though, as far as i am aware Kovalinen already ran the new parts and couldn't get the best out of them like Hamilton, he is by far the better driver, although a huge amount of complement must go to the engineers for what they have managed to do with that car...

Kovy only ran with the new front wing. He didn't have the short wheelbase chassis, complete with new rear floor etc.

I agree, it's a long season and those points may be sorely missed come the end of the season!
