Had the pleasure of meeting an owner of a red VXR8 today, who told us that his car had been super-charged to 600 bhp 0-60 in 3.8 seconds, and tops out at 204 mph, but he had only managed 180 on the M18 as he needed to drop the front end by 2 inches as it starts to lift at speed, his mod’s were done by “Wilkingshaws”, strangely the new Wilkingshaw pipes looked and sounded exactly as the stock ones and even a whine-less super charger. All this apart he did buy a fantastic car and it looked superb.

Our black one comes next Tuesday, the waiting over the past week has felt like a life time, talk about wish your life away (just wondering where they have put that new BS button). Were down at Monkfish on Friday anyone else booked in?

You can have a 600hp+ supercharger from Walkinshaw Performance and don't need to change the exhaust or suspension - so he was perhaps talking truth.

Should have told him you just bought a VXR8 and asked him to pop the bonnet so you could check out the supercharger installation.

The performance figures make for good reading!

Can't help but feel that 600 bhp is not good enough for 200+ mph or 3.8 to 60.
Cutting out 25% of the 0-60 is really hard -just look at the Bathurst S with 550ish bhp and takes 4.5 to 60 down from 4.9.

Could be wrong but it just doesn't feel that those figures would be enough.

EDIT: Sorry, it's early on a sunday (after saturday night). Just realised the thread topic!

635fwhp before the big bang and below 4 secs to 60 according to Richards timing gear and still pulling reasonably hard at 189 (sat Nav) in Germany last year so possible... smile Would have taken a picture of Tom Tom at 200 this year it the dame thing had stayed together!

Mind you thats in a Monaro and not a lardy VXR8.

Flying spur 550bhp gives 202 mph, 599gtb gives 205mph, koenigsegg gives 240mph off 650bhp, murceliago 210mph of 630bhp, pagani 220mph off 550bhp, M6/M5 will do 204mph (destriscted) off 507bhp.

My old 456 did 194mph with 450bhp and a 911 will do 188 with 360bhp.

Ergo a VXR8 with 600-650bhp should be knocking on the door of a double ton, where its a factor of power, wind resistance and gearing.

I think 0-60 is hampered with 1840kgs weight, 2wd, relatively skinny tyres, long throw box and gear ratios - hence why a GTR can produce such stunning times.

Wow that is fast, most i managed was 165mph...however that was on american roads, time to give european roads a try

I was meaning specifically a vxr8 - all the cars listed have massively better aerodynamics and I would also suspect less losses through the drivetrain.

Given that aero drag is by far the most massive barrier to speed at these kind of levels.
a good rule of thumb is to say that any increase in speed requires a proporitional increase in power equals to the cube of the ratio of speed increase.

so say a stock vxr8 can do 170 with 420bhp and assume this is at peak power (for arguments sake)
200 mph is a 17.6% increase in top speed
This would need another 17.6% cubed = 62.8% more power or a total of about 684bhp

So yes whilst although 600-650 would be knocking on the door theres no way it'll be doing 200+

205 would need around 736!

You can also work backwards with the other cars to show how efficient their aero is (again a rule of thumb not exact science)
Take the flying spur at 550/200mph - if you wanted to redesign the car with a top speed matching the vxr8's 170mph then you could do it with only 308bhp

That logic suggests that a flying spur is c.30% more aerodynamically efficient than a VXR8 - I doubt that.

Its clear that the top gears of the vxr8 / Monaro are about fuel efficiency not top speed, hence the gearing isn't optimised to match top speed with peak power in 6th.

If you assume a standard car would hit 175mph then your maths suggest 600bhp would be more than sufficient for 200mph.

He hasn`t, the best so far was 198 over 1.5 miles.
Take it from me though, its way way faster than that with more room

I`m guessing a std LS2 would be pushing it to see 175, 6th gear just won`t work.

600HP in a VXR8..... I doubt it`ll see 200, even S800 would have used up a lot of miles to see 200 if at all, and a `Ro` is way more slippy.

Probably the Thunder Road event! If it goes ahead that is.

Well to put it all into some kind of perspective, I have a computer simulation of a top speed run in my car.

200MPH comes up in 28 secs at just over a mile..........

Top speed (231mph) takes 43,000 ft more....thats an extra 8.1 miles yikes

(And I think the thing is optimstic anyway TBO)

Nowhere in this country can Harry legally explore his top speed (So I can feel a Eurothrash coming on....)
