...fiberglass impacting deer at 40 mph.

Fortunately there is no damage to the car. Sadly, the same can't be said for the (now defunct) deer.

Poor little Bambi and I exchanged terrified glances for a nano-second before impact. It seems, to me at least, that evolution can't keep apace. The thing jumped out of the hedge saw me approaching on a country lane and stopped in its tracks. The road wasn't wide enough for the two of us so it was a case of Car 1 : Deer 0.

As I was removing some blood and gore from the bodywork at home (in the light of my garage) I realised that whenever a deer is disturbed it normally pauses for a second or two before darting away. Now that strategy is pretty good in the confines of a forest or meadow but not so effective in front of a car. The result is 'Darwinism in action' the genes of that particular chap will no longer be passed on. Which, when you think about it, is rather like the sad demise of the TVR Motor Company.

Oh Deer.

Though, I feel you may have faired worse in a Triumph Stag.

At least you were'nt in the rain dear, with that many horses under your hoof.

You were lucky to get away with no damage, hitting a deer's not like hitting candy floss! Sure you eat both but they usually have different outcoming when when playing the car/animal equivilent of British Bulldogs!

I was following a friend of mine through Thetford forest in DAF-XF 44 tonners one night when the CB suddendly coughs into life and he's squawking down the airwaves...

Him - "Watch out for my numberplate when you come up the Mundford hill.....!"
Me - "Ummmm - OK but why?"
Him - "'Cause it's rammed up the acensorede of some f***ing deer!" ranting

£2K+ of damage and 1 good BBQ !

Lucky lad, like pheasants they can be made of lead. Many years ago i worked with a guy who saved all his money to buy his dream car - an audi quattro, had it written off on day 1 by a deer, damn thing ran into the side of the audi, shook its head and ran off! Deer 1 Car 0 in this case.

Where was this, Steve? I've had a few deer "appear suddenly" on the roads around Axford. No deer fencing and low hedges.

You were really, REALLY lucky if your car was undamaged - those things are chunky!

Hi Don,

I was driving back from a wedding reception in Burghclere - it was the road between Burghclere and Kingsclere. As such, very narrow.

I had a rabbit steal my front spoiler getting hit by a chunk of metal moving at 50 wasn't to good for it. I went back and checked but there wasn't too much point... or rabbit. Spoiler was almost a spiral after catching on the ground.
