Canary Islands.....
Discussion
Hoping to get away for a week or so late October / November time.
As we're only going for a week long haul isn't really too much of an option.
Been to Egypt a couple of times and also Tunisia.
So decided on one of the Canaries.
Now looking for recomendations as to which island and also which hotel.
Want:
Warm - 25c plus?
Relaxation
Beach
Pool
Nice hotel
Local restaurants / bars
Do not want:
Chavvy hell holes.
Over to you.
ETA: Sorry should have ben in holidays n travel.

Have been to lanzarote last year and that is nice as long as you stay away from the chavvy area(puerto del carmen). Hired a car and toured the island, there was a nice port near the top of the country, will try to remember the name. We went all inclusive, and wish we hadn't as we prefered to eat in the local bars. There was a good variety and not badly priced. The hotel seemed to think all English people wanted was chips with everything!
Fueteventura (apologies for spelling) was also nice as it wasn't very developed, that was a few years ago though so may have changed. Long rolling sand dunes as I remember.

How much you got to spend? £1500 will get some nice all-inclusive 5*
Is that per person or in total? That might be affordable for all inc - obviosuly less if we're going to have to pay for food and drink out there.
I'm off to the Iberostar Costa Calero in Lanzarote just before 1/2 term, £2066 (for 11 nights) was just over 1500 for a week. Shop around the tour companies.
Been to Gran Canaria, which seems to be the most developed of all the islands, and that was over 10 years ago now too!
Been through Tenerife (long story), and it didn't look too brillant if I'm honest.
Was in Lanzarote (Costa Teguise) last year at the beginning of October, which I thought was pleasant. I too got a hire car and was easy to explore most of the island in a week.
No matter which island you go to you'll still have to contend with the winds!

Never experienced serious wind on Gran Canaria myself (try staying off the Full English Breakfasts lads....)
Avoid like the plague Puerto Rico and Maspalomas (unless you enjoy trudging around tat infested shops whilst being hassled by Africans)
Must visits though, have got to include Palmitos Park, the Central Region (hire a car and visit Roque Noblo etc.) and the unspoilt north west of the island. Puerto de Mogan has a pretty marina, good rental apartments, decent restaurants and a regular sea taxi.

Been to most of the islands except Fueteventura
For me Lanzarote is the best.
Costa Teguise is nice, not too developed, can be a bit windy at times. Playa Blanca has been developed alot over the past few years, compared to what it used to be like and was very nice when i visited it in Jan. Puerto Del Carmen has a mixture of everything, tacky pubs on one side and an old harbour town with great food on the other. The promenade of Del Carmen has been developed this year.
Tenerife (Playa del Americas) was nasty the last time i visited.
Gran Canaria, was OK, nothing great

Hers is something I put together for another post last week, similar question but they were wanting to go in aug so the prices I quote should be lower when you want to go. Los Cristianos is nice and quiet not many chavs as they tend to inhabit las americas .
Los cristianos in Tenerife. Some good restaurants but no mental bars or clubs so its a nice place to hang around. Fantastic beach. nice hotels, try getting in Reveron plaza 4* hotel overlooking the church in the centre (it has a rooftop adults only swimming pool) http://www.reveronhotels.com/ing/index.htm. Just make sure you book the plaza, there are other apartments called reveron in los cristianos that you dont want to stay at as they are out of town.
If you want nightlife a 5 min taxi ride puts you in las americas with hundreds of clubs, bars etc.
For a good deal try booking the hotel via ASDA travel. No seriously I have used all sorts of trvel websites over the years, last year they were £50 cheaper than anyone else for the same hotel. Book flights direct with monarch to tenerife.
e.g. Fly out on 23rd Aug, return on 4-sep (ok thats 12 days but those are the cheap flight days!)
2 x Adults, return flights = £552 including all taxes www.monarch.co.uk
1 x Room hotel reveron plaza 4* £753.89 www.asda-travel.co.uk
Total price £1305 leaving lots of beer money .....

been to all of the islands. tenerife isnt as bad as people make out. Sure there are some chav areas
But somne amazing driving roads and impressive scenery inland. volcano etc.
Stayed at this 5*hotel. top place with great pool although the area is a bit barren and a drive to the nearest beach. usually pay about 500pp b&b
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g315919-d5...
Cant say I was overly impressed with Lazarote. Its ok though. Best thing about it is it proximity to fuerteventura (15 mile ferry ride). I eneded up doing 3 days on each island once.
Fuerteventura has probably the nicest beaches. Large clean and spacious. Can be a little breezy.
Its reasonabley quiet although the area of antigua is built up enough.
Stayed at a nice 5* sheraton there
Its definitely worth hiring a car for 100 quid for the week inorder to explore the island and other areas
http://www.arcarhire.com/car-hire/car-hire.php
Going back to gran canaria in Nov. Only becasue havent done that for a few years. So far only booked flight with ryanir at 55 quid return.
Previously stayed here and was impressed. Agian its usually 500 for a 5* b&b

Anyone been to the smaller less popular islands?
La Palma / la gomera??
Or any other decent spots?
La Gomera is a great island - really enjoyed our week there.La Palma / la gomera??
Or any other decent spots?
What it is: Scenic, rugged, quiet.
What it isn't: on the chav circuit, lively in any way shape or form.
Horses for courses, really - some fantastic walking to be had on mountain paths if you're so inclined. Fantastic roads for driving, even in a Punto 1.2 they really are great. We stayed at the Hotel Jardin Technica, which was very good - up on a cliff, but with a lift to their lower pool area, too. Very few local bars etc, though, if that's important to you.
