Just curious why the 8.3 V10 in the Viper only produces 500hp stock? Is there any major difference in power/torque delivery between V10 and V8.

Not thinking of getting one it just seems a ridiculous displacement for a 'low' figure(stock)

Just thinking might engine swap next year (THINKING!) and do I get LSX454/LS7 etc or just strengthen the LS3 and work with that. I know it comes down to what you want to put down on the road.....

Hi mate, Viper engine has crap heads and cam stock. They are designed for torque and are an ex truck block.
They put down 435rwhp at SRR stock. With proper heads and cam they will generate much more.

If you do head down that way look at selling yours off and buying in a new engine. You might find beefing yours up costs much the same, if not more at the end of the day. You can get a really strong darton sleeved block and a 440 is a sweet spot on price as pistons are just oversized LS7 ones and not a custom size as would be a 454 etc.

An LS3 can be stroked to 427 quite easy as well I think Craig (tinker) has done a few of these, maybe Brummie has one I think.

At least you have a lot of time for research, which isnt a bad thing.

New vipers have 8.4l 600bhp/580lbft engines stock.

The problem it has is that it is soo big that it produces enough torque that all the moving parts need to be stronger/heavier. This makes it harder to get to big RPM and it's rpm you need if you want to go for big power.
