Does anyone have any machining drawings of the Bell Housing and Slave Cylinder?

The original is st to be frank (have one in the house) and the newer design isn't much better, im looking to address the problem of the leaky slave and sort this problem once and for all as mine is buggered again and cant afford to keep addressing this one issue which is pretty simple to cure.

I'm looking for the drawings so I have something to base my work on and check original dimensions etc rather than measuring the slave (will be more accurate with drawings as they cant vary at all.) and bell housing.

I am still working on the chassis problem (I mentioned earlier in the year), but not sure it is going to be financially viable for the vast majority, but having said that, an engine rebuild/conversion isn't cheap either.

what do you think is wrong with the slave designs currently available and what do you propose to do to fix it?

Corrosion problems, working on rectifying this problem with some sort of guarantee, but will be expensive.

I've not seen all slave designs available, but I know the ones I have had in my car are terrible and had confirmation that even the new slave cylinders are poor yesterday by a well known TVR Specialist.

I'm planning on re-designing it, will test it out on my car to make sure all is ok, then hopefully will be able to sort the problem of leaky slaves out for anyone who wants it.

Have you just looked at the std replacement slaves or the aftermarket versions already available?

Like I said I've not seen all replacement Slaves, have been warned not to touch certain ones with the proverbial barge pole and know the new upgraded one I have in now is poor and the originals as you know are poor.

I'm not trying to trod on anyones feet here, im doing this so I can sort mine out, then if it works, i'll let you know.

Im just needing the drawings so its easier starting point for me, if not then vernier it is laugh

Just be aware that there was originally 3 different slave-cylinders,and you dont know which one is fitted to a particular car until the old one is removed.I fitted a nitrided one to my Cerb 2 years ago(10k miles ago) & have had no issues with it.I thought the issue was mainly to do with poor seals anyway?

Ok, just a quick update, I have this well under way now (slave cylinder) and should be 2 weeks when it is in place in my car for testing.

Machining will commence next week on my old cylinder which I removed as it was one of the original ones. I replaced the original (well the one in my car at time of purchase) with a nitrided one, but to no avail.

My thoughts were that if i can get the old one to work reliably in my car then new ones should be no problem at all.

What's the plan Alan - double seals?

I'm interested in your ideas too Alan. Ive modified my leaky slave, re-made some bits changing the clearances slightly and double sealed it. I'll see how it goes when i eventually get the car back on the road.... still waiting for valve stem seals to become available in the UK so i can rebuild my heads.

I'm sorry I dont want to give away details of my design just yet as I would like to supply these where possible, lets just say I'm 99% sure this is going to be a permanent fix as I don't want to be taking it out again.

Fair enough Alan, hope your on to a winner. How long will it take to prove out your new design, are you using a test rig to simulate 1000's of clutch presses?

Same here.
Im unsure as to how long to run a test so that people will have confidence in my design, but the first one is going straight in my own car, so i do have confidence in it.

Like I said earlier, the one im going to use in my car was the one i removed when it failed the first time. Im not going to do anything with this one apart from incorporate my new desing into it, i.e im not going to skim it where there appears to be a bit of wear. My reason for this is, if i can get the old one to be reliable, then a fresh machined one will be no problem.

A test rig will be attempted but failing this then my car is going to get a lot of use and the clutch a lot of abuse, I hope the fingers dont go laugh

Oh the chassis idea I mentioned in my original post, is pretty much a no go due to cost, was going to end up being in the region of 40-45k, but would come with a lifetime guarantee and be approx 30% lighter. hehe

Which variant is nitrided or did you get that done yourself?

Was going for that for the chassis, but like i said, would be in region of £45k, possibly plus fabrication too depending on supplier.

ETA: just didnt realise how very expensive Titanium was compared to Steel, its rediculous. Will look for something else now though. wink

Aye, it's very expensive, a mate and I were contemplating changing all nuts and bolts on his kit car from stainless etc to Ti, on that alone we figured we could save around 10kgs in weight, but the cost was HUGE.

Not to mention, it was very difficult to find Ti nuts and bolts in the first place.
