Anybody out there got any ideas for tidying up the induction on a V8S to get rid of some of that plumbing? Thanks Joe

Are you trying to get rid of that run down to the front? It's a good cold air intake so if you do eliminate it make sure you find another cold air source.

At one point a had the intake drawing from the gap between the front nearside wheel arch liner and the bonnet, but it meant that opening the bonnet was a pain. For several years I had a filter/afm/throttle all connected directly together, with a box over the passenger footwell drawing cold air from the gap at the back of the bonnet. That tended to suffer from heat soak when stationary but it worked very well once it was moving.

The current setup has an 80mm silicon hose straight out to the front of the car, just missing the wheel arch liner and with a slight kink at the front to dodge round the radiator. The filter itself is just on front of the rad as close to the plywood bonnet brace as it will go, it's boxed in so it only draws cold air from the front of the rad.

Hi. Thanks for the response. I was hoping to get rid of the long pipe to the front but as you say that raises a problem of where to get a cold air flow from. I also wanted todo something about the horrible pipe work coming off the air flow meter. ACT can supply an elbow which would allow me to move the air flow meter into line (approx) with the drain pipe to the air filter and then connect the intake side of th emeter dirctly to the drain pipe with a straight piece of rubber pipe, also from ACT. Do you know of anyione who's tried this? Alternaitively they can supply a piece of 3" flexible hose which will look a lot better than the stuff that's on there at the moment and aviod a lot of fabricating. Oppen to suggestions. Thanks. Joe

The big blue hose on the right is the induction. Ignore the rest of the engine bay, it's none standard. But you could use a similar technique to plumb your cold air intake to the front using straight hose and a 90 bend into the throttle. Note that mine is supported at the throttle and also at the front by the radiator (you can't really see in the pic but the hose hoes through a panel beside the rad). It works very well and keeps the air nice and cool, the silicon hose is quite expensive, though. You can get much cheaper air ducting (basically plastic / fiberglass supported by a coil of wire) which is easier to use in some ways but wouldn't flow *quite* as well and does need to be supported. It would be pretty easy to replace that expensive silicone hose with a metal pipe and some lagging if you preferred that.

Thanks for the pjoto - very helpful. Whay did you mount the air flow meter on? Thanks. Joe

When I had the 5am and air filter straight into the plenum, the little air box I had on the passenger's footwell had the 5am poking through the side, with a cone filter clamped onto it from inside the box. So the meter couldn't go far. There was only a very short run of corrugated rubber hose from the afm to the throttle so that supported the other side of the meter too a little.

In the current setup I use a 20am which is a bit lighter, and it's just in series with the rest of the induction. The whole thing is only supported by the two clamps at each end (one at the throttle, the other down by the air filter). You can't really see in the picture but there's a stiffening bar under the hose and strapped to it, to stop it from bowing in the middle.
