Folks,

I know the these cars have a propensity for "secret buttons" and up until yesterday I thought I had discovered them all......

Whilst hunting around in the passenger footwell of my Chim in a (failed/aborted) attempt to get at the battery and disconnect it, I decided to undo the two philips screws holding the "glove compartment" on. Low and behold this revealed a drop down access panel under the leather pocket/pouch. Just inside the panel to the right (as you look at it from the passenger seat) there appears to be a hidden solenoid type rubberised button. I daren't press it for fear of it being an ejector seat activation device or similar. Assuming however that this isn't the case, anyone know what it does? Alarm reset perhaps??

Any clues gratefully received.

- Andy.

May be the fuel cut off switch

I know that some cars have this and triggers in the event of a bump. Bit like a breaker.

The bible may help or call your friendly dealer.

Mmm, it may not even be a button, as I say I daren't press it incase it immobilised the car or something, it did feel like it wanted depressing though! It's obviously something you don't want to push too often as it's not accesible without removing that panel, so I wouldn't get too excited (I doubt it'll turn on your ABS or integrated satnav for example....)

Its a fuel cut off, the rubber button pops up after a ding or as i found out if you shut the glove box to hard trying to stop a rattle!!!

Took me 20 mins work out the problem ie no fuel then 10 mins to find the button in the dark, no torch/bible in the boot...

Thats on a griff anyway

Yup! Sounds like the fuel cutoff. The tuscan one is on the tank and so is more easily recognisable for what it is.

"Inertia Switch"... It cuts the fuel pump off in the event of a crash, nock, tap...or in my case a speed bloody bump.

Excellent - thanks all, not the alarm reset I was hoping for but mystery solved none-the-less.

Happy New Year.

Maybe you could use it as an extra anti-theft device - monkey breaks into car, defeats immobiliser but still can't go...
