Just wondering how many people type in their own name into Google. Am I right that Google is under no obligation to junk old search data? whistle

So if they wanted too they could find a lot about you as they have your ip address, your name (if you've typed it in) and all the other stuff you searched for - "good pubs in Rugby" location, "under 4's baby shops" you have a young child etc etc.
I am sure they could find your home address quite easily. type

I know I have once or twice and nothing comes up because I am always careful about what I type about myself, from being in the IT industry for years, as it's online for a very long time! This is why my profile has no web links or my full name.

So am I just being paranoid or is it worth being careful about what you type, if I type in "bill bloggs used be a woman" that thread can be searched for in google, especially with PH which has high ranking, for years?

I have a program that will automatically fire off random requests to Google in the background, so it can't build up specific information on you.

Don't use it mind, bit tin foil hat for me.

I think it depends on whether or not you have an unusual name.

If I put my first and last name in quotes and Google it, then it brings back over 360,000 results globally, and over 40,000 from the UK alone. It is, I suppose, possible that some of them refer to me, but they're going to be a long, long way down the list.

If, on the other hand, my name was "Herbert Fotheringay", then I would be very much inclined to agree!

But how do Google know it's me? They might know that an IP address Googled for my name, but they don't know who is on that IP as that information is held by my ISP (or employer, if I'm 'googling' from work)
