2003 Z4 - central locking locks the passenger door, but will not unlock it (only way of doing so is to tug the inside handle a couple of times). Any ideas as to what needs to be done to sort this out?
(Unlocking the car with the key also only operates driver's door)

My thoughts:
1) not central locking motor (because it locks the door, so must be working)
2) not a fuse (same reason)
3) possibly security glitch that has set itself in remote (to ensure that someone doesn't jump in the passenger seat when car is unlocked)

This is rarely a problem as my car is more often than not used as a toy in fair weather - with hood down (as it should be cool), so (after disarming alarm with rc) it is easy to reach in and open the door.

Thanks for your help

I think the usual issue where this happens is due to the actuator needing replacing. Not uncommon at all in the E46 and I assume therefore this also applies to the Z4.

Have you tried pressing the unlock button twice? I believe its a keyfob programmable option to have the drivers door unlock on the first press only and the passenger door on the second.

Thanks for the help:
1. Unfortunately a second press on the remote does not do the trick
2. Presumably replacing the actuator is a dealer/auto electrician job? Any ideas as to the likely cost? If it is cheap then I will get it done, if it is north of three figures then I will live with the problem for the time being.

Cheers

The first thing to do is to check that it is actually the actuator that has gone. Do you have a trusty Indie you can take it to? I'm pretty sure the cost will be more than £100 (possibly just for the part).

Ooooo yeah i've been bent over for this one. Twice. Actuator is £96.00 from BMW I believe, plus labour to fit it, which will probably be an hour.
