I just finished my venerable old bottle of Worcester sauce and started a new one. WTF? It's like water!

Have Mr Lea and Mr Perrins hit hard times or does it mature in the bottle?

Evidently it acts as its own marinade effectively maturing the longer you leave it! Possibly! hehe

You should buy it in 1/2 litre bottles, two at a time.

I don't think I have ever finished a bottle - they always seem to outlast my stay in any one place.

Its got no end of uses, not just cheese on toast. I go through several a year. But never had a watery one. Start or end of the batch one that should not have made the bottle?

Funny you should say that because in a similar vein I bought some BASICS brown sauce the other day and although it was cheap it was cheap because they put more vinegar in it and so it was very runny as well. Some value food is ok, but don't scrimp on the brown sauce.

Andy

not to sound patronising, but did you give it a shake first?

We bought a special edition extra matured bottle a while back that actually tastes quite a bit more potent than the normal stuff, so maybe they're making the regular stuff weaker in order to shift more bottles of that?

A bit, but maybe I should have done it more. I actually bought it a year ago, with the idea that it could mature etc in the meantime.

I'll give it a better shake next time but am not confident. My other plan is to pour it into a pan and evaporate half the volume off.

I just wondered whether good old Lea & Perrins has been 'dumbed down' by the 20-somethings in the marketing department, like Marmite was.

do be fair, it could just be a duff bottle - with millions made, even a 0.01% spoilage / misfill rate would knock a few wierd bottles out.

you could always send it back to L&P and ask for a replacement. they might even send you a T-shirt.

Lea & Perrins, Reggae Reggae, Blue Dragon Sweet Chilli (dipping), Daddies Brown, Heinz Ketchup, Helmans Mayo, Colmans Mint Sauce.

Stock those bad boys at all times.

I thought the reggae sauce would be a bit duff but tried it anyway, turned out to be pretty good, I now mix it in my baked beans for beans on toast biggrin

You want to trade the Heinz Ketchup in for the Reggae Reggae Ketchup too.

If I'm honest, I do alternate between them, much like I alternate between branston and heinz baked beans.

Branston make the best ketchup and brown sauce, and I can't believe you left out tabasco!
