Anyone have any idea what it'd cost to buy a complete new 4.5 Speed-8 engine from TVR or what you can pick them up for secondhand? (there must have been one or two bought and sold over the past few years)... just curious

TVR don't seem keen on supplying crated engines. You'll probably have to get one from a scrappy.

I'm sure tvr aren't allowed not to sell you an engine if you wanted one , but they might say "yes sir but there's a 30 years waiting list" hoping you'll go elsewhere or send your engine for rebuild.

If you're buying for another car entirely ie transplant just get one from a scrappers .. reckon on 4k though, but don't buy a 4.5, you'll pay a premium for no extra power, buy a 4.2 instead.

Crikey, an AJPV8 would be fantastic in a TR7. Good luck to ya if thants your intention. I've only ever tried a 3.5 rover V8 and that was bloody rapid so an AJP would be simply mental

Sorry, but I know an LS1 will fit and there's room for the 6 speed and turbo's. Time for a rethink IMHO.

Byff, Yeah, TOYING with the idea of putting one into the TR7. I've been planning on using a 5L Rover engine (either building one myself from a new block or using a Griff 500 donor engine). I've always dreamed of the AJP V8 in a project car but never really looked at it too seriously (I mean hey, it's BOUND to be cheaper going the rover route....) but since this rebuild is taking ages to get off the ground (paying back my student loan before committing dollars to the TR) then I'm just throwing ideas out there to see what happens.
As for the LS1 I've definitely toyed with the idea.... there's TONNES of them out here in wrecked HSV holdens, and doing a twinturb kit for them would be childs play, but somehow I don't like the idea of it.... want to keep it Rover if I can, then I can say that it's still got its roots in the original TR8 (being a rover V8 underneath the fuel injection etc) or using something like a TVR V8 which has clearly evolved as a specialist replacement for the Rover V8.

I know that the LS1, though heavier, would be faaaaar chepaer and more power than a rover.... but as they say, it's jusst not cricket is it old boy? :P

We'll see though, I'm keeping an open mind for sure! And don't worry, the suspension/brakes/chassis are getting more than their fair share of the cash to cope with an intended 350(ish) bhp.

Esprit,

If not the ls1 then a turbocharged 4.6 would be straightforward and cheaper then a 5.0 tiff. I've blown through a holley 600 d/p and was easy to do. You get to keep the rv8 that way and can use stock compression and 7 psi-10psi.
