Venice... in november

Love Venice. Good tip - buy a 24 vaporetto pass then spend all day zooming up and down the different canals. Much cheaper than a gondola and you get to see loads!
do both! the vaporetto's don't go down the little canals...and it is his anniversary....gondola ride is probably mandatory!
Murano glass factories are interesting - apart from anything else; it is one way to end up taking a water taxi, cool to go bombing about the lagoon in one! (we took the water taxi from airport to hotel

Other than that; as has been said, pick a 'top ten guide' - the Gugenheim is quite nice if that is your thing - we were there when we heard London had been awarded the Olympics! - a Brit was working in the cloakroom and dying to tell someone!

From St Marks walk up to the railway station via the Rialto bridge, get Vaporetto No1 back to see the Grand Canal
Go to Saint Marks - and go and see the bronze horses upstairs then go over the Academia bridge and leave the Grand Canal behind, when you reach the next Canal - which the shipping uses, there's lots of waterfront restaurants good for a sit down
On the way to the Academia bridge there's a shop that sells slices of pizza for a few euros - only non-rip off catering in Venice
Standing in St Marks Square with St Marks behind you leave the square at the bottom righthand corner to find the gondola basin - great spot for photos
If you want to go round a Palace Ca'Regio is open to the public - on the West side of the Grand Canal up a bit from the Rialto bridge
For a nice evening thing to do - go to a recital of the four seasons - which was written in Venice there's a group that perform in an old church just next to St Marks - it's a magical thing to do
Eating out can be pricy and the food isn't always fantastic. The places near St Marks are quite good value - most expensive is the Caravelle on the way to the Academia bridge
Harry's bar is a good place for a Bellini - peach juice and champagne. Leave St Marks Square heading for the lagoon, turn right and stick to the waterfront. Harry's bar is at the corner where you have to turn back inland
Go up the Campanile early - the queues are long but it is worth it. It fell down in 1911 with the death of a cat only, same applies to the doge's palace - and the prison where Casanova was locked up. You can still see the grafitti carved by inmates hundreds of years ago
And if you get fed up with thr pigeons - they're protected and revered by Venetians as it was a pigeon that bough the news of the fall of Constantinople which set Venice on track to be the greatest City State of the med
These are random thoughts - but with a plan you'll do all this and more besides in 3 days - enjoy it - there is nowhere in the world like Venice!!

You have done the right thing going out of season. The atmosphere of the place in quieter back streets late at night when it's misty is truly incredible.
Plus it doesn't stink of piss in the Autumn... always a bonus Edited by Olf on Friday 28th August 23:37

In tourist season, the place is hell. Out of season, one of the most amazing, unique places to be in the world.
