Boardman HT Pro?

Is it any good? the mags seem to think so.

Accepting the usual comments about Halfords is it a good one or am I better off with the Cube LTD RAce that I keep looking at?
On paper the spec of the Boardman is better so am I just being a snob looking at big names?

I think from what I have read, they are the best specced bikes availble at that price. And nothing really compares..

I am seriously considering their roadbike..

From what I've read as well, the whole Boardman range are highly regarded. At that price point you've also got the Rock Lobster which is currently reduced to £1000 when equipped with Reba Race forks and Shimano SLX kit - in this respect the Boardman has the better brakes, but the Lobster has a better wheelset.

For once I've put my money where my mouth is and bought a Rock Lobster about 3 weeks ago and have to say it is a very impressive bike.

Not the same but i've riding the Boardman Hybrid Pro... can't say enough about it. Took it into evans to get some shorts and guys there were all over it, they said would have to spend around £500 more than halfords price to get a similar spec bike with them... Says a lot even with evans prices...

Still don't know why their largest size is only 54cm though..... anyone got any answers? They go much larger on their road bikes...

i have an 08 road team and love it to pieces. its very capable and fun to ride. wheels arent the best but an affordable upgrade.

I have had mine for about a month now, I got it on cycle2work so it works out at 665 over the year which made it even more of a bargain, the bike has been flawless so far, I had to adjust the reba forks for my weight and this improved the bike a bit but as standard it gave me so much more confidence than my old bike, all the kit is extremely slick and works so smoothly as you would expect.

I am riding much faster on it than my old bike due to the weight, noticably easier to get up hills thats for sure and downhill it gives me a lot more confidence as it just switches directions so easily. The only downsides to the bikes are the tyres which don't really have enough knobbles when it gets muddy, and the seat which may as well be made out of a slab of wood.

I was going to suggest some very nice BMC bikes that were heavily discounted on Wiggle, but they've gone now (£1000, XT everything and Fox fork).

Look out for slightly more obscure brands that are heavily discounted if you are keen for a Boardman alternative. Would have thought that the Boardman was a pretty damn good choice though.

someone has recently started importing Jamis bikes into the UK again and they are worth a look as the are well specced for the money. their hardtails have always been classic north american geometry in the joe murray school of desgin

I did a search a few days ago and came up blank.

I'm after a sub £1000 HT in the next few months and want to go for steel.

It will be through the Bike to Work scheme hopefully.

Any other suggestions?

Also looking at the Orange P7 & Ridgeback Genesis (iO ID or Altitude 10)
