E90 M3 Colour combinations & residuals?
Discussion
One of these is current flavour of the month and rather, rather tempting. It seems to tick almost all of the boxes on my 'want' list and is practical enough to justify buying one to SWMBO where the Aston failed!
I test drove a Silverstone/Black one last weekend and was very very impressed. The car was over priced though and I am not sure they are willing to be sensible either!
Whilst looking around at those for sale, it seems there are only 3 combinations, Silverstone/Black, Black/Red & White/Red? I'm not too keen on the red interior but, equally, I'm not too sure about a silver (ish!) car.
Has anyone ever seen a black with black car?
Also, what is the collective thought on residuals for the E90? They seem few and far between but also quite popular. I'm getting residual quotes for what will be a 4yr old car of around £15k. Sound realistic or rather pessimistic?

It's a nice dilemma to have!
The silverstone/black and black/red cars are mostly 08's and were the launch cars IIRC. There are a couple of white cars, one of which is the facelift model with DCT and the new i-drive, but it's got red interior.
The residual seems nicely cautious to me. I'd expect it to be easily worth £20k+ in a few years time, given average miles, FBMWSH etc.
I've been looking at them myself, and the only one that took my fancy has sold. I'll probably end up keeping my E46 for a bit.
Happy hunting
Matt

I'm genuinely surprised by how few there seem to be for sale.
Going for a new one is not an option. Too much to lose value wise. The car will have below average miles put on it, maybe 8k a year max so this should help the residual too.
I'm in no rush so will keep an eye on the AUC's listed over the next few weeks/months.

There were around 20 pre-reg cars some time ago at 40k or there about's they flew out of dealerships. I think dealers are not holding alot of user M3 stock and the cars they hold they're looking to make good money from. Certainly I bought my 57 e92 M3 Coupe last november (red/black) and I'm sure I could get within a few hundred quid of the price I paid if I sold today. However everything else has also gone up, 996 C4S' have returned to 30k+ marks and 997C2s haven't fallen since november.
I didn't want a red car, Melbourne Red has grown on me, (particularly with anthracite 18s), I like the saloons, I would go white with 18s, or silverstone and 18s. Typically and having worked for BMW I would have gone for silver/black/grey with 19s because all the dealers would want that car a little more than a red car with 18s, but to be honest the price I paid for the red car was 2.5k less than any equivalent car of any colour.
Depreciation in any model is expensive, I'd look to pay as close to 36-37k as I could get for a year-18month old car with a good spec.
sounds like you can wait for the right deal to come your way...

I think I'm suffering from prices having firmed and/or risen since the Dec/Jan low. I know everything has it's fair value but it just niggles me at having missed a "bargain". Petty perhaps? Probably would go for black/black or silverstone/black if it was a good deal. Funny the comment on red cars. I'm not a fan of them really. Still managed to own three cars in red over the years though!
I'll agree on 36-37k, that would seem fair to me. I wouldn't expect BMW to go that far on a car though? Other than the car buying fever, I have no rush to get anything so will just keep an eye on them for now. With holidays and other things going on nothing would happen this side of October at the earliest.
I
I bought a pre-registered M3 saloon at the end of April. Had been watching the prices for some while.
BMW had put about 8 saloons into the network in November 2008 and I thought about buying one and didn't - they were all around £41K to £43K. They sold within a month. Kicked myself for not being more decisive.
Then in March they put about 30 saloons in the network, most were priced at £39K or £40K, with a couple of dealers asking a bit more - all the same spec - manual, EDC, 19's, i-pod connection, bluetooth, park sensors and a few other minor items. I was very sad and produced a spreadsheet of colour combinations and prices but can't find it now. I do remember though that three quarters of the cars were black with red interior or silver with black interior. The remaining five or six had some more interesting colour combinations - I don't think there were any black/black cars.
I dithered again and after a month when I finally decided I would take the plunge, there were only about six left and they were all black/red and siolver black remaining.
The red interior is much better in the flesh than photos and I plumped for that, also influenced by my regular dealer (who did not supply the car) who said black/red would be a better combo to sell than silver/black. Was quite important to me as I will probably go back to a five series when the new model comes out next year.

The car I viewed is one of the March 08 cars. Seems a bit rich that they are trying to sell them for the same again just 18 months older and 10-20k more miles covered!BMW had put about 8 saloons into the network in November 2008 and I thought about buying one and didn't - they were all around £41K to £43K. I had sent a reply to a finance quotation (at a shocking 14.5% APR!) with a few other questions, movement on the price being one, but I haven't had a response for a few days now. Not sure if this is their, not so subtle, way of telling me "No" or not?!

I have just bought a red one this weekend. I had my mind set on a black one, but once I saw the red in the flesh I thought it looked awesome, a little bit different.
Do you have a picture mate? I have an Imola Red Z4m and would like to see the difference.Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
