My missus told me last night that during the day she'd seen a large plane (a civilian airliner she thought) being escorted by two fighters. What do you suppose it was - state visit? training exercise? air show somewhere?

I'd love to don a tin foil hat and say an Arab gentleman had told her not to go into central London that day, but that's not the case. smile

They passed over Borehamwood yesterday afternoon, it was a BAe 146 short/medium range airliner escorted by, what looked like, two Dassault Falcon exec jets. Dunno what it was all about though

Something to do with FR Aviation - who operate a fleet of Falcons out of Bournemouth on behalf of the MoD?

The PPRUNE forum reports it as the BAe 146 and 2 x HS125s from the Royal Flight Squadron (if its still called that now?)

That makes sense.

I couldn't work out what a Falcon biz jet would be doing escorting a BAe 146.

It was Mandy & Brown coming back from their holidays getting some protection in case the revolution starts early.

Or.

Protection from any US fighters in the area providing some friendly fire in Brown's direction to say thanks for allowing the release of the PanAm bomber.

It's called XXXII(TR)Sqn ie 32 The Royal Squadron and has been since 1995 when 32 Sqn amalgamated with the Queens Flight.
