Hi

Looking at an SL55 later and was wondering how much a new set of front discs and pads would be and also what the dimensions of the 19" rim tyres are so I can get an idea of price for tyres.

The rears have been done recently so I am just preparing for the possibility that the front might need doing. Also the tyres are described as good all round but I have my tread depth gauge with me so we will see.

It all helps with negotiation.

Most grateful for anyone with an idea of cost. I would imagine the brakes are the standard and not the fancier ones from the Performance Pack.

Not sure re brakes but front tyres are typically 255/35R19 96Y approx £250 each I think when I got mine a few months back (Pilot Sports)

Thanks for that so low tread on front costs £500.

Anyone got the rear dimensions? I guess they are wider so probably £600 so maybe £1100 all round. Will be interesting to see what he thinks good tyres are. I don't let mine go below 3mm the legal limit of 1.6mm is a joke.

I would also prefer same make/type tyres all round, worth checking?

Rears are 285/30R19 98Y - Had puncture in one in a not so lovely part of Sth London a couple of weeks back - £360 to replace but had no choice really....you should be able to get them a little cheaper..

Thanks for that. £360 is not far off BlackCircles price so you did not do so bad. Bridgestones are £266.

I know what you mean by no choice. I had a blowout on the M25 and needed a tyre as I did not fancy 100+ miles on the space saver. So found a place close by and got raped for the tyre and they also damaged the alloy in the process and disclaimed all liability.

Front pads and discs should be about £420 fitted from a specialist.

Thanks for the help.

I went to see the car but it is not right for me. The info however is invaluable as the tyres were down to 3mm front and rear and the front disks although ok were clearly middle aged. So in my mind the car needs maybe £1500 in the next year on those alone.
