E93 M3 - Enhancing engine sound
Discussion
Evening all
I've been umming and arring what car to get next. I had always considered the M3 a distant 3rd place in my affections - considering it a good compromise, but ultimately a bit unexciting compared to the other two.
However given the launch of the new 'Edition' variant and some great offers on BMW contract hire, I thought I would give it a fair go.
I'm glad I did. I was massively surprised by how good it was.
I had worried how big it would feel, but from the first turn of the wheel, it felt incredibly light on its feet, with so little inertia I was genuinely surprised seeing two seats in the back!
Turn in is pretty electric, and there is so little understeer, and it feels incredibly balanced on the throttle - almost like it's on it's tip toes whilst still feeling planted.
It always felt exciting - the squirm in the chassis under all that power is really awe-inspiring.
Engine sounded great, just a shame it's not a bit louder. So I was wondering are there any easy mods to enhance the sound? Is there a sound generator like in the Z4? I've removed the foam in mine on the Z4 and it sounds pretty good - anything like that for the M?
Thanks in advance
Mike

The answer is: Einsenmann ''race'' mufflers, a piece of art work with a fairly intoxicating sound without beeing too loud...
On my opinion it doesn't come better...

I have an Eisenmann Race on my E92 M3 and cant get enough if it.
i live in London and commute with it daily.
The sound is phenomenal, like a 70s Muscle car crossed with 2009 Germanic precision (Think Bullitt 2009). The V8 flutters loud and deep above 3,000 rpm, with a slight Italian whine.
Only issue is there is a drone between 2-3000 rpm, but if you need to be quiet you can just change gear early.
On start up it is louder for c 2 mins and then settles down, but nothing offensive.
It has turned the car into a monster, could not reccomend more highly.
Check it out:

But its much cheaper to buy in the UK.

You are just paying for the name with AC, its just a Remus in disguise. Might as well go straight to Remus and get the same for £400 less.http://www.ac-schnitzer.de/en/bmw-cars/pop-ups/sou...

Eisenmann is still better for sound, for performance go for the Active autowerks.
I found this thread to be very informative both by way of videos and detail in the thread well worth a look. 5 different e93 m3s from idle to light driving to hard accelerating to drive bys.
1/ OEM exhaust
2/ Dinan
3/ AA Signature
4/ Eisennman Race
5/ Meisterschaft GT2
6/ Gintani Rear and Gintani Catless X-Pipe

I have a Miltek cat-back on mine and am pleased about the enormous weight saving, the better finish from OEM and the fruity bassline the car has at tickover. Not too loud, never boomy and shrieks like Kim Basinger in Batman at full chat.
Only mod I have done to the car as it is is almost perfect from the box as long as you have EDC.
