ESVA/IVA ? What is needed to Import

Given the new IVA rules, what is required to import a <10years old car from Japan.

Has the requirement to use a Model Report been scrapped ?

If so does this open up the option to import non standard and non model report vehicles ?

IVA is for kit cars and the like I think.

You will need it to pass the ESVA for which you will need a model report.

On top of that it will need an MOT along with proof of insurance so the car can be registered.

Just spoken to http://www.charlesworths.co.uk and the new rules seems to be that provided a car has been used in Japan and has a deregistration certificate then it can be imported under 10 years old and be put forward for the ESVA test WITHOUT a MODEL REPORT.

Maybe Japan has moved inline with their emissions and safety laws in recent years. There were problems with that in the late 90's where it was impossible to import RX7s to the UK due to emissions.

Or an attempt to allow for more private imports as model reports were a rather expensive part of the process.

I have confirmed with a VOSA engineer that you can now import <10year old cars from America/Canada/Japan provided they have been used on the road for 6months or more and have the required paperwork (Japan) or build stamps (North America) on the chassis.

i heard that most of the required information is present on the Jap de-reg certificate in order to pass an SVA/IVA, but i would give Marc a shout from http://www.topspec-imports.com
as he has relevant experience in registering Japanese imports that are subject to SVA/IVA laws
