Brake lights almost useless in leds

I have new led lights. having been followed in the dark by a friend of mine I have been told that t e brake lights are next to useless in the dark ie when other lights are on. Has anybody else experienced this and was there a solution?
Also has anybody added a nice 3rd brakelight?

are the lights "E" marked ?

Have you checked to see if they are wired correctly?

Perhaps the brake lights are on all the time and the tail lights are hooked to the brake?

common error with combined stop and tail lights. Reinsert the lamp rotated 180 degrees in the socket. This swaps the brake and tail lights between their respective circuits.

Another problem may be the colour of the LEDs, I replaced mine two years ago and I get a brighter, deeper red. If you have used white LEDs with the standard red lenses then you will have problems I believe, as the red lens filters out all but the very small content of red light from the LEDs, thus red LEDs are best.

i have added a 3rd led brake light, very pleased with the result.

Works well with standard brake lights.

Ok Martin let me in on the secret if you will.
WHo made it & where did you get it?
There seem to be a lot on the market but it is difficult to sort the good from the bad.

These are factory supplied lights I believe so they will be E marked.
You can't put a ring of leds in upside down. That leaves the wiring which again is factory plug together sstuff.

Not a solution but I would go on e-bay and buy the old style fiat coupe light- they look better and work!

Please note I have discovered that my rear lights are not in fact ultima supplied. Therefore it will be necessary to investigate further. Maybe I have the brake light switch problem.

hi mark,

i think it came from car builder solutions, only cost around £13.00, fits into a preshaped slot.

How long it will last I am not sure but it works well and looks good

Looks good as well, I was impressed when i saw Martins car the other week

I have the Factory supplied LED rear lamps and they work great.

They are bright on run mode and very bright on brake.
