Salzburg and Davos questions
Discussion
All,
we're off on a small budget trip for a few days in the Alps starting in Salzburg then heading down to Davos for obvious reasons
.
Rather than staying directly in Salzburg (as we are driving) does anyone have recommendations for locations/guest hoses/hotels in the nearby area and also things on a "must see" basis? She's mad on the sound of music too.... next we're planning on a few days in Davos to take that pass in before heading home via Interlaken - again like Salzburg we dont need to stay town center but somewhere nice, cheapish and with easy reach to bars/restaurants.
Finally I've seen places like expedia claim all taxes included etc but then reports on feedback (for Austria) about extra taxes being charged, is this the case is this something we need to consider?
Leaving Thursday for the tunnel!

We stayed in a 5* just outside Salzburg, so I guess that's out for you. Mondsee is a beautiful location on a lake east of Salzburg. It has the Sound of Music church & cafe, and has a few places to stay
Around Interlaken is a lovely little town called Lauterbrunnen, about 20 mins away with access the mountain railway. We've had lunch here (stayed in Interlaken)- it seems nice enough.

cheers guys, yes 5* is out as at the last minute I've been dropped a huge bill for some of the building work I am having done so its guesthaus all the way!
The route in general would be Sunny Swindon down to Salzburg then Davos before finishing in Interlaken. Would you advise Zam over Salzburg?

Salzburg for the day is nice, plenty to do and see. Very Cultural.
BUT, at the end of the day its a City, with tourists, cafes and shops.
I much prefer getting out into the Country and in the Mountains.
The Zell am See area and the lake are stunning:

There has been a few threads about Salzburg in the past, what to do etc.
