If one had provisionally decided that this is their next car what is the best way to get one early? I really like what I've seen of the R (engine spec and pictures) and it could coincide with the end of my current lease quite nicely. I have spoken with my useless local dealer who can't commit any information whatsoever(!) apart from a guess that the car will be available from March 2010. Does anyone have any reliable intel regarding release dates and likely prices etc?

Where are you? Can put you in touch with a friendly salesperson at Allan Day in Finchley - if there's info to be had from VW he should be able to assist.

I spoke to Martins VW in Camberley the other day and the sales guy was under the impression that the R was due around November/December of this year.

I'm really interested in the Golf GTI R though but he hadn't seen any release details of that one through yet.

Well.. camberley was the dealer mentioned in the opening post..... they mentioned a March date after conversation with the "sales manager". Not sure its credible for some reason!

Quote from dealer on SciroccoNet http://www.scirocconet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f...

There is a possibility that the UK may have some production allocation of R Line Golf, to sit alongside the coming Scirocco R Line, as illustrated on the attached powerpoint slide.

Scirocco R - unveiled in May 2009 and due to arrive in Q1 2010.

Golf R - Although the arrival of an R version of the New Golf is not yet guaranteed, it is likely that it could go into production and be with us as early as Q1 2010.

We may have production of 600 units, but we need to gauge how much desire there would be in the network to run a demo of these two models, to assist our volume negotiations.

I should make you aware at this stage that whilst we are not aware of final pricing, the current pricing forecast indicates a premium of around £5,000 on Scirocco and £6,500 on Golf and therefore these vehicles may be a harder sell than previous models such as Golf R32.

After driving the nasty plastic cheap feeling Focus RS I'm quite interested in the Scirocco R too.

hey guys

I see that you've found the comments from scirocconet, I personally frequent sciroccocentral.

They has been mention made that the allocation will be restricted to 2 or 3 per dealer (600 units for the UK total as mentioned above) for the first year. So if you are interested in an R & don't want to wait you might need to hot foot it to a dealer & put down a deposit to secure a place in the queue, there are certainly a number of dealers I know of that already have 3, 4 or 5 deposits down even though the order books aren't open yet.
