Am fitting a set of 15 inch 5.5J wire wheels to a Mk2 Jaguar and wondered what current thoughts were on tyre size and brand best suited to fast road use.
Any help appreciated.

Depends on whether you are after a more period feel of running on cross plies which makes the steering much nicer. Personally I like the way my XK150 feels that way.
If so I'd recommend Blockleys.

You could consider fitting 6" wheels.
I've got those on my mk2 and 205 70 15 Avon CR6 ZZ's.
They are a very good modern design of tyre, a radial, but very stiff side walls, loads of grip but very gentle when letting go and great wet grip. They also look quite old fashioned so suit the car well.
I don't know if they are suited to 5.5" wheels, I've found the Avon comps people very helpful so you could give them a call.

Thanks guys.
Was advised that 205 70s OK to use on 5.5 rims and then managed to track down a set of P4000s.
