My car has eaten its rubber doughnut so Mark is putting another one on. I read this article: www.highperformancepontiac.com/tech/hppp_0609_2004_pontiac_GTO_halfshaft_upgrade/index.html

All looks good until you do a little research on the GTO forums and find people slating the one piece driveshaft/prop because it vibrates and then breaks:

I don't want to worry about this so I was wondering what others have done? 2 piece looks better but the rubber coupling is a weak spot from what I can work out:

The drive donut is fine but should be considered a consumable in cars like ours. I eat 3 of these in a 330 bmw, primarily down to my driving around the ring hard in it but their not expensive so I wouldnt worry. They are also very good at insulating the gearbox from suddent shocks as the donut flexes slightly. Take all the soft bits out of the drive train and you only end up going up the tree of expense as the next thing breaks till you get to the point where nothing will break but the drive st... been there done that on a bike mate!

My shaft didn't get censored.... strange eh?
ETA I had a one piece on a previous car and the CV joint broke - the damage and horrific banging of the one piece flying loose under the car was something to experience - at least with a 2 piece if something goes its a little more restrained.....

The VXR prop is slightly more manly than the CV8 one mate.

Prob worth the upgrade.

I have a GFORCE1320 Carbon Fibre Prop, ( http://shop.gforce1320.com ) however it’s not on the car yet so I can’t give you an opinion. There are some reviews here www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=307526&highlight=carbon+review

Hendrix engineering do a 2 Piece Prop also www.hendrix-engineering.com
Both are sponsors on LS1GTO.COM

Unless you opt for exotic materials, a one piece shaft is not an option.

Search the term "critical speed" and you'll find out why.

Just get a 2 piece made, although finding places to do it can be a nightmare.

The driveshaft shop do a 2 piece prop that's rated to 1000hp. www.driveshaftshop.com/pdetail.php?pid=460

Looks the same as the Hendrix engineering stuff. Do they ship to the UK?

FWIW the Hendrix one is the same amount for a Chromoly/Chromoly prop. I have dealt with Thomas @ Hendrix before and the guy is a star. Very flexible with shipping, duty etc& and gave excellent service.
