Golf GTTDI - Throttle blip on ignition + Smoke = Glow plugs?
Discussion
Hi,
Another one for the VAG tech's which is very much appreciated, recently my MK4 GT TDI (130) has has had a quick Throttle blip on ignition & its quite smokey (its ok after its started). Basically the revs increase rapidly on ignition for about 1/2 a second followed by lots of smoke.
Now the Glow plug light seems to take a long time to go out sometimes. When i get in it, sometimes is quick, sometimes its 10secs for the light to go out?? The racing revs occur when i start the car with the glow light illuminated or if a wait for it too go out.
Any ideas, should i be replacing the glow plugs at the next service, the car has done 132,000.
Thanks in advance

Little temp sensor rhs of engine at rear , i have replaced mine without draining , make sure no dirt etc I think it controls 2 things .
was your problem glow plugs or reving or both? What is this temp sensor called?
As for the oil seals, hope it not that! i checked the oil and it hasnt used a drop in 10,000 miles, I also think it maybe temp related which is telling the ECU to rev for a short period, (i.e undertemp)
Thanks
Problem one was on start it would rev without touching the throttle , replaced the seals and cleaned out the air cooler and inlet manifold and pipes with Gunk , fithy job. And a real nasty little think called the EGR located left hand side of the engine at top with on the end of the pipe that comes from cooler . Why VW did it this way I just do not know. Mine was sooted and filled with a rock hard carbon only about 30% of the diameter was left working.
Problem two was a long glow plug on time even in summer somethimes 10-15 seconds . Sensor looked like a thimble with i think 3 connectors on the back held in with a small clip. This problen did show up on the VAG diag codes.
I think the sensor does the water temp for electric fan and glow plugs

Thanks i also have problem one, it will sometimes hold 1100rpm when just started, if engine is ticking over at lights, if its cold it will sometimes self throttle upto 1100rpm then drops back after a mixed time period but probably 20seconds ish,
EGR might need a good clean then, will give that a go
