e36 boot lock stuck
Discussion
mine was the same. the boot mechanism was loose so couldn't move properly to get in the way of the lock bit to let it open.
i had to climb in the boot from the inside. the back seats should come down with the levers at the top of the seats. then undo the cloth that covers the boot lock from the inside and move the mechanism to the open position yourself.
once open check it works with the bootlid open, do it up properly etc.
p.s, take a torch with you first time! its not easy to get in and out of there. you'll only want to do it the once.

Hi, exactly the same happened on my 328i cab.
Boot locking solenoid was the culprit. Had it supplied and fitted by a specialist for £70.00.
Whilst waiting to get it fited the only way into the boot was to repeatedly press the central locking from the key fob whilst you repeatedly press the boot button.
Eventually you catch the locking mechanism and the boot opens . . . or rather it did for me.
Good luck
