Reading about the GP who had flings with his receptionist and a couple of patients, I was rather surprised to read that he turned the CCTV off in his surgery whilst he was 'doing things'.
Is it normal for CCTV to be used in GPs' practices?

I hope not. as last time i had a smear at my gp's surgery I was very aware of a small hole in the ceiling. I hate to think if the video got into the wrong hands...... eek

Sadly the way the world is going, this may become essential to protect GP's and Dentists and any other health care professional.

I know a dentist who was accused of touching a patients breast, whispering obscene stuff in her ear, and get this; sticking a childrens dental sticker on her bare nipple.
This was supposed to have happened in an open plan dental surgery. The nurse never left the room during the entire appointment.
Yet he still had the stress of the allegation, being arrested and put on bail, etc. The police were worse then useless. The main evidence was the sticker that the patient had presented to the police. His nurse had to point out to the police, when they showed her the sticker in the witness interview, that it was still on the backing paper and was in pristine condition! The police had a eureka moment and acknowledged the claim was likely bks.

I know a GP who was accused by a 14 year old boy of touching his balls inappropriately. He was arrested, name released to the papers, went to court, endured stress that almost killed him before the stupid boy admitted he had made the whole thing up.

I have a gp surgery as a client in Swindon. Not only did it have wall to wall cctv, it had a permenant security guard on duty.

I'm due one by the practice nurse - but certainly wouldn't agree to having one if I knew it was going to be taped.

....I'm sort of recalling the last smear I had ( at a different surgery) and I recall a small hole that might have held a web cam or something like.
Do Doctors just perv off on this sort of thing...or are there procedures in place that don't allow it being released unless a complaint is formally made?
The lack of info from the normal PH docs does make me think that CCTV is actually widespread....I just haven't seen any porn films advertised 'smear tapes live'...it being the only scenario when the viewer is guaranteed a close-up look.

eta ...I don't watch any porno films at all eek
