Just thought a few might like to know.

Motorists are being targeted by hidden cameras and trap cars on a notorious stretch of road in the East Riding.
Traffic police are using 'covert' tactics to try and put a stop to motorists who have been caught travelling at speeds of more than 130mph on the A166 close to Wetwang.
The offensive comes after biker David Saxby was jailed for 12 months for dangerous driving on the road.
He was filmed clocking up to 139mph.
Saxby, 40, of Rowley Grove, was convicted at Hull Crown Court in July for the offence, which happened last year.
Nothing new I know, but thought people might like the reminder.

Great to see our taxes still being spent on persecuting & removing the liberty of motorists whilst benefit fraudsters suck millions from the economy, violent crime is increasing, thieving scum walk free on our streets, etc..
If I were cynical, I'd suggest this was policing what's easy to detect/measure covertly (shooting fish in a barrel comes to mind), rather than what serves the public interest.
Perhaps it's time I read some of the local crime stats and wrote to my local Chief Constable and asked what's being done about things that actually affect real people's lives!

Well said Stu! If I were cynical, I'd suggest this was policing what's easy to detect/measure covertly (shooting fish in a barrel comes to mind), rather than what serves the public interest.

Quite a lot of fatal collisions on the A166... traffic police policing traffic... don't see the problem TBH.Can't say I've seen that, apart from one occasion in Bainton. I agree that that is not the way to go, and that they should be more visible.
Someone once told me that the East Riding used to have 4x as many traffic officers 10 years ago than it does now. They are, in my opinion, stretched to the limit at times (sometimes beyond) and the recent centralisation of traffic resources *may* be a good thing, though why the East Riding traffic dept is based at Driffield when at least some of their resources should be directed at the M62, is beyond me (and the traffic lads I've spoken to).
The area clearly has a problem with speeding or resources would not be directed at it; let's just be thankful the area mentioned isn't riddled with camera vans at the moment.
I think it's well-known now that this area is well policed by traffic, with marked/unmarked cars and bikes, and even the air support unit getting involved with Op. Achilles.
What I do believe, more firmly than ever, is that the standard of driving round here is appalling - not just speeding, but dangerous overtaking and tailgating. Again, in my opinion, traffic should be targeting this with unmarked vehicles rather than sitting at the roadside catching speeders.
But that's just my opinion, what would I know?

Bear in mind there is a fine line between bad driving or driving at high speed when there is a danger to other road users and simply driving fast.
I believe that there should be a lot more Traffic Police on the road targeting bad driving such as dangerous overtakes, tailgating, poor lane discipline and yes, excessive speed when a danger ... I would be mightily peeved however if I was out at the crack of dawn and got done for excessive speed when travelling over a wide open road such as Flyingdales, being a danger to no-one but myself, the odd rabbit ... or policeman sat behind a hedge.

For the second time we agree on something.I believe that there should be a lot more Traffic Police on the road targeting bad driving such as dangerous overtakes, tailgating, poor lane discipline and yes, excessive speed when a danger ... Just so long as you don't go killing youself on your early morning run and end up costing the taxpayer thousands for the investigation and clean-up.
The amount of tax I have paid in my life, I think HM Govt would still up on the deal.
figures approximated of course, based on the use of the word "thousands" by our learned part time bobby friend above
If you had ever been out on ANY of our runs, you may understand more of where we are coming from. I have a wife and two small children. It would be a far greater inconvenience for both myself and them if I stacked it than any police force in the world.

It was meant to be tongue in cheek; it's always something that is mentioned re: fatals - the cost cited being in the order of £1m.If you had ever been out on ANY of our runs, you may understand more of where we are coming from. Do you really believe that or are you just baiting Pheonix (which he never spots anyway
)?Like many on here know (and I know 'cos I read it in a book), 'roadcraft', which is the art of car control, hazard perception & planning all make a much greater contribution to road safety ( try to think of it as accident avoidance if you can), rather than trying to rationalise with mature, intelligent adults that 'speed kills'. We all know Andy Green is still alive and well, so we know it's about a time and a place, appropriateness.
Getting back to my point (rather than trying to brainwash others with this kind of drivel - please don't), what is being done about things that affect people's lives much more materially than this guy, who has had his liberty removed (costing the taxpayer how much), probably his livelihood no doubt? Please let us know your thoughts on this rather question than clanging the same old bell.
Please don't think I'm defending the actions of anyone - I don't know the circumstances around this case, but I am making a point about policing/government policy and the cynical and arrogant treatment of road users.
Sorry for the rant by the way, sh!t day and things like this make my p!$$ boil - a lot.
......and breathe......
Now made onto BBC News http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/humber/8226673.stm
Hmmmm....
"Humberside Police, who have gathered data on driver speeds on the road for several weeks"
I think the only limit I break is the noise level throttling off
