To replace the 30 year old monster in my kitchen ---

I have a variety of quotes on the table -- not much difference in price...

Standard 3 bed 20's semi -- not interested in a combi --

What should I go for from Baxi / Main / Worcester Bosch ?

Any recommendations?

Worcester Bosch.

The OH works for a company that offer boiler repair insurance and the like. Even she knows that Worcester Bosch are good quality stuff. There was one better make I think but I can't remember the name...

They aren't very good as they used to be, many of their components are now plastic - you will have issues whereby they will melt.

Worcester Bosch was recommended by my heating guy when installing CH in our four bed semi, which is running 11 rads.

Would go along with this. If you've got older pipework / rads then the system needs to be squeaky clean. We had a Vaillant ecoTEC Exclusive fitted and according to our plumber it was definitely up to the job of dealing with a 4-bed high celing house. Unfortunately, they'd recently had a falling out with their pump supplier and decided to go in-house. The difference was a plastic/nylon impeller in the pump as opposed to a metal impeller. Any debris in the heating system will damage the impeller or the bearings to the point that you'll need a new pump.

Vaillant say the pump can't be opened up to repair and you need a new set at £200 a pop. Our plumber opened the pump, found the problem and was right peeved with them for changing the specs without telling anyone. The above info only came out wafter a stand up row between us and Vaillant. 3 pumps in a year later and we've got all new rads, flushed system about 10 times and inhibitor running through.

I have no problem with the plumber, but may not recommend Vaillant next time. Indeed on hindsight, I maybe should have stuck with a cylinder as opposed to a combi due to the size of the house or even gone with multiple boilers, but that's a different issue.
