Why am I a chavvy racist???

I am proud to be English (not British). Why does this make me a chav?
I am proud to be white. Why does this make me a racist?

I have just been told I am a racist chav for having these same views.

How can you be proud of something you had absolutely no choice in making? It's a non-entity. Patriotism is the belief that your country is superior because you were born in it.

I never get the point of patriotism, or nationalism... It seems silly.

errr no!

Nothing wrong with being proud of those things, but I think you need to inform the person that has a problem with it, that racism only occurs when you victimise others for what race they are.

As Steamer says, I can't see how these views are racist until you suggest that you are superior to some one who is not British or white.

From what you descibe it doesn't sound racist. Can you answer why English particularly and not British? And why white? Just curious

Myself I am white, and I have English parentage. I am with Wilde on patriotism.

For some, everything and everyone is racist. It's an unfortunate position which devalues the abhorrence of actual racist behaviour.

Not sure why you are "proud" to be white BUT there is no harm in not being ashamed of being white..

Why can't you be proud to be 'you' and not have to define yourself by certain constraits that put you at opposition to others?

I.e. i'm proud to be white, has always sounded to me like 'i wouldn't be if i was anything other than this race colour'.

I would say it can have an impact on you. Whether you're the slave or the slave owner, or you are the descendent of such in a racist/uneven society.

Well, you'd still be English, whether you spoke German or not. Being proud of your Grandfather is explainable, being proud to be English is nothing more than standing on others shoulders, not being proud of what YOU are.

It all stems from The Lockerby (sp) bomber being released and the scottish flags being flown. My Scottish (his descrption not mine) colleague said that he was ashamed to see the flag flying in Libya. Then we some how got onto the St. Georges flag and was told I was a chav to be proud of my flag.
Then they went on to say i was a racist because we were having a debate regarding the demise of this country and the immagration levels
