Not long to go now, fingers crossed the weather behaves. Any news on top fuel are we gonna see any more entries I see Urs Erbachers name has vanished off there. What about the likes of Jari Halinen and Timo Lehtimaki are they gona be there?. Anymore news on the 1000ft is it happening or are we going 1320ft the way it shold be.

Jari Halinen said during the Viedec Festival he would be contesting the Finals at the Pod (see Eurodragsters excellent pit notes coverage from the event at Mantorp), but alot can happen between then and now. Would be great to see an extra TF or two just to give qualifying an extra edge.

Yeh I recall reading that, also on Timo Lehtimaki's website it says the team are planning to attend the finals, but nothing on the entry list. Surely there isnt going to be many more additions to the entry now. Also has TMFC down for 8 entries now unless i cant count i only make it 6 entries.

I believe Rune has 3 T/F cars and all 3 are already entered [ Linda , Jon , Risto ] so not sure what Halinen would drive.

I only enquired about the 1000ft as Hockhenheim was ment to be i thought and then at the last minute it got changed to 1320ft. Theres no problem what so ever running 1320ft at the Pod thats my view.

Patrik's dragster was in Mats Eriksson's workshop at the end of July. I saw it with my own eyes. It was down to a bare chassis and the new back end was not complete.

It is a shame that neither Urs or Lex are racing, but i expect their exploits in NHRA will take priority. The Pro Mod field has shrunk further to 22 cars I believe. Flamholc has sold his Camaro and the other drop out is PM6, but i can't remember who that was. We had already lost the Blown Nugget and i would think many of the additional runners they had in Sweden will not have the budget to haul everything over here.
I was disappointed that we only have 3 Fuel Funny cars, with still no sign of the Nighthawk car and the new Starkotter car. Has Thomas Nataas given up on the Funny Car now? and what happened to the car Patrick Pers ran last season. We could have been looking at 6 to 8 cars..that would have been awesome.
Fingers crossed on the weather.

.
Marc Melhuizen blew his motor at Hockenheim (as reported in the fantastic Pit Notes by Simon.

8 top fuel dragsters, 10 world class alcohol dragsters, 22 P/M, 11 Pro Stock, 15 TFB, similar numbers in STTF, 7 N/FA's. What poverty! how will we ever cope??

Hi Phil, hope all is well with you - i'll pop over and say hello if you'll be at the finals? I'll be over with Kai Selkämäa on TF bike again... Please pass on my congratulations to AC... top effort smile

Well personally I don't give a rat's a$$ how many of what there are running. I'm just looking forward to watching an entire event, watching the cars from the side and run from left to right for a change instead of from behind, with one eye out the window and t'other on a computer monitor for hours at a time biggrin

without wishing to be hung drawn and quartered (wont be the first time), is there a reason why "pro" semi final/final rounds dont have "first alternate" options to avoid bye runs in the event of a "no show".......just wondered

1. Because drag racing is an elimination contest and it makes a mockery of the rules.

2. How would you choose which of the four first-round losers to bring back in? OK, quickest loser. Would they want to do a turn-round just on the off-chance?

3. This actually happened some years ago: how would you explain to your sponsors and your public that you were beaten in the final by someone who should not have been there because they were actually eliminated earlier but came back in?

There's sometimes provision for this in certain classes, though it's often overlooked I guess. A few years back it was common to see eliminated cars turned around and in the fire up road come semi finals if they knew the actually semi finalists were having issues.

Most of the time it's something you see in Round 1, where the last of the qualifiers are broke and cant make the call.

If it had implications in championships then probably yes

As for the public/race fans, a final thats a bye is bit of a let down, very few bye runs are taken at 100% full welly (for obvious reasons), I just think given the regularity of rain-offs, oildowns and no-shows every RACE is a bonus, and any newbies expecting to see a race in a final round and seeing a bye run trickle through could just go away a tad confused.

Sponsors would have to accept that it was a rule, no different to being shut off on the line if you spring a leak, cross the the line or pull a cherry.

Any "alternate" rule would need policing to avoid a rerun of July 2nd 1989/Cannonball events......lol
