Please give me some advice as I'm seeing a 1995 328i Sport today with rather a high mileage. What should I look for especially in the service history and in the car condition in general. Engine was replaced under warranty due to nikasil issues at 60k so no worries there.

Thanks chaps biggrin

Suspension! Find out when dampers were last replaced, on the test drive listen out for any knocks, again find out if/when the various dampers were replaced.

Make sure it was replaced with an Alusil block. Some got another Nikasil block.

To be honest once a car is what, 14 years old, I really dont think mileage makes any difference.

I had a look: To me it seemed tired. Rust on 3 arches, doors didn't open very easily.

I don't need this, I'd rather spend out £1500 more and get a much better one. It's been resprayed and not the best of jobs, though looks lovely from a distance. So it's a no go I'm afraid.

Who's to say a lower mileage original good condition 328i sport holds its value?

The price is massively optimistic, especially given that the pictures and his description don't tally with the reality, the mileage and what I suspected.

Seriously, not much more buys a really nice 328i Sport.

191k is alot of miles. Forget about the engine, I'd be concerned with knackered suspension and steering components, rust and the fact that it WILL be looking tired and have a whole host of niggles and marks.

Some early replacements were Nikasil, then alloy blocks with steel liners not Alusil.

My old Nov 1995 328 had digi climate and black head on the original engine so I don't think it's too strange. Early 328s on M reg were analogue AC with the alloy painted head though. This probably isn't gospel and I'm sure there will be some inconsistencies with the occasional BMW parts pin special editions.

I'm sure you can find much fresher /better specced sports for that kind of money. I think the seller is trying a little too hard to cash in on the fact that it has an LSD fitted.

Agree. I paid £2k for an M3 with half the mileage.

Recently sold a 1994 320 coupe - 176k miles - Main issues with it were rust on the wheel arches - Pebbledashed through the paint at that mileage, and the drivers seat bolster.

Maintained fastidiously so suspension and engine great.

Thought I did very well to get £600 for it.

Agree, that is steep price wise.
