Think it should be a requirement to have an advanced driving techniques session before owning a powerful rwd sports car IMO.

i would have thought anyone with an ounce of sense who has just owned a tvr for four days,would not be doing anything stupid enough to spin it FOUR times before hitting a pole!

Agreed, but looking at the damage on the car I suspect there is an element of media hype in the report.

I did a 720 spin on spilt fuel on a wet French motorway at just 60mph & there wasnt a panel on the car that wasnt damaged or destroyed as a result. If the back snaps out your just along for the ride but it doesnt mean you were driving like a maniac & need to be boiled in oil for your actions

Hopefully he can get it fixed & book a Ride Drive day!

Someone at work was overtaken by this guy a few minutes before he crashed. His comments on the TVR owner's driving weren't at all positive, and when he stopped to help, the driver claimed that he didn't realise the car didn't have traction control...

Rubbish. The car only goes as fast as the driver tells it to. People dont need lessons on car control techniques to drive a powerful rwd car, they just need lessons on why not to drive like a knob. Hopefully this'll do the trick, and thankfully nobody came to any harm in the process.

My brother did the same at Clacketts in a Corvette at 75 mph. Hit a patch of standing water. And as you said Nick. He was just along for the ride as well. The car ended up going from the outside lane. Hitting the armco,and ended up in lane two facing on coming traffic. Car was a total loss. But a least i had the number plate for mine.:

Most areas up here you don't even have to spin 4 times to hit a Pole

Was looking through the TVR section trying to decide whether to go Griff or Chim for my next project when I stumbled across this age old thread!

After I've thanked you all heartily for your compassion and concern, I'd like to take a second or two to defend myself against the inexperienced, incompetent, and on drugs conclusions many of you have jumped to!

Drugs, never done them, motors have always been my vice, and if I was going to start, I think I'd do so on a day when I'm not driving to Scotland in a TVR! Not inexperienced, or oblivious either. Had lots of powerful rear wheel drive cars, from a SOTW Jag XJ6 the second I could afford the insurance, to Brabus E class's and XKR's, E-Types, 911's and M cars as soon as I made a few quid.

What I was doing, was driving a car that I hardly knew, hundreds of miles in the pissing rain on a truly terrible road, loving every minute of it. At motorway speeds, when you hit a big puddle of standing water four days into TVR ownership, there's only so much recovering you can do before it snaps back and and sticks the blackpool boot in your teeth.

I love TVR's, nothing I've ever driven delivers the same buzz, and I've been lucky enough to drive pretty much every supercar marque on the planet, Lambos, Fezzas, Porkers, the new GTR (epic) a plethora of supercharged Jags, (no Aston's, the badge does nothing for me)... TVR is the only one that scares the st out of me, and any of you who haven't given it a boot-full and fought blackpools finest for traction through first, second, third and fourth, frankly shouldn't be allowed to own a TVR. They're a scallywags car, they're the northern working class with wheels built to stick their middle finger up at the Italian and German elite, and that's why I spent many many months, and many thousands fastidiously rebuilding my beloved T350, and did many happy miles in it, improving the brakes and handling in my time of ownership, and scaring myself stless on numerous occasions. It's now in the capable hands of another PH'er to be enjoyed even more (especially if he drops a 4.0L lump into it

My point is this, whilst it's easy for you to sit there and assume that some dhead young lad in a band bought a fast car got off his face and wrecked it being a dick... you are mistaken. What actually happened was a devoted petrol head and regular PH'er winced in disbelief and horror as his pride and joy was destroyed. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and the car lives on.

Now, back to my original task of deciding between Chim and Griff. I intend to track it, a lot, so thinking Chim, any advice would be welcome though.
