Anyone here have any insider knowledge?

I've stayed at the Conrad but it is a bit out in the sticks.

Looking to take the Mrs to Tokyo and fancied something in the heart of things. Its a special trip so cost is'nt really an issue ( just as well in Tokyo).

Quite fancy something near Shibuya ??

Thanks

We're staying for our honeymoon at the Park Hyatt in Shinjuku next August. Can't wait as went there with a mate for a drink at the 2 bars and they were amazing! Unbelievable views and felt like I was in Lost In Translation.

I have also heard that the Mandarin Oriental is pretty special too.

A friend of mine recently stayed at the Park Hyatt and had wasabi beef steak - £200 but it was so tender she could slice it with a chop stick lick

I stayed at Hotel Okura, great hotel right in the centre of it all but amazingly quiet. Don't forget to take the bullet train to Kyoto.

I'm thinking of going to Tokyo in Feb, whats at Kyoto?

And would 3 nights be enough there?

Kyoto is very interesting and famous for it's temples and stunning scenery. Just Google Kyoto, there's so much to see. Kyoto used to be the capital of Japan, hence Tokyo is an anagram of Kyoto.

Ahhh that makes sense. How long does the bulliet train to get there, and what sort of price?

Thanks

I think it took about 2 hours to get to Kyoto. Pricewise, I can't remember, we were with some Japanese friends who paid for the tickets.

Thats how I roll

Another vote for the Park Hyatt; I was only there for two nights on my own but it has to be one of the best hotels in the world; plus my room was larger than my entire flat! hehe

It is in the middle of the financial district so there's not many sights/attractions near by, but Shinjuku Station is a 15 minute walk and the transit system is faultless for getting you back down to Shibuya or further round to the shopping side of the city.

Edit to say: If you're looking to stay in Shibuya, check out the Granbell Hotel Shibuya; it is not 5 star but it is a nice botique hotel with a good choice of rooms; check out the Granbell websitesmile

Yeah, Park Hyatt is about as good as it gets in Tokyo, but if you want the traditional Japanese experience it might be worth having a night or two in a Ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) http://www.ryokan.or.jp/index_en.html

Kyoto is fine if you want some old temples, but 24 hours is more than enough there - everyone recommends the Golden Temple, but I found it slightly crap and preferred Kiyomizu dera http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiyomizudera

If you stay in Kyoto you are close to Osaka which for a good night out, I prefer over Tokyo, Osaka really is a fun place at night.

Good point on the Ryokans. We're going to stay a night at Hakone Ginyu after staying in Tokyo. Here is the site we booked it from. It is bloody expensive mind!

I've stayed at a few nice hotels in Tokyo, I would put the Peninsula at the top of the list. Great location too.

It is??? I think most of the expensive hotels are between Roppongi and Ginza. Not so many over Shibuya way I don't think
