Engine Mounts

My car has started to make a vibration more like a metal on chassis sound.
Wondering if it's the mounts or it could be exhaust.
When i had the chim i replaced the mounts as i could see the exhaust was hitting the chassis.
Can't see any thing obvious on the T350 or should i replace them anyway as they seem a problem part.
After i replaced the chim ones there is now a upgraded mount poly i think SC Power?
Anyone fitted those?
Any advice on fitting the mounts would be welcome.

What's the reason for garage job please.
I replaced them on the chim is'nt it the same procedure.
Does the exhaust pose a problem?

From new, the front section of my exhaust just touched the gearbox chassis plate occasionally, esp when warm. A few large washers under the plate sorted it.

Airbox top off, jack engine up one side down other etc. as not symetrical due to dry sump.
You will get the idea when you start the job!

I have a very similar issue in that I get vibration build up at the same speed (around 90) which then doesn't go away until I drop back down under that speed again.........I start feeling it in the seat so not sure if its something like the exhaust vibrating on the chassis underneath my seat or something else like the engine mounts? The car is fine at lower speeds in all gears so only notice it occasionally if I happen to forget how far the loud pedal has been depressed ;-)

Its going in for a service and de-cats next month so I was gonna get them to look at it then unless anyone thinks something like this should be looked at straight away?

As Graham says, sounds more like wheel/drive train balance. If it was engine/exhaust it would do it at set RPMs at different speeds dependant on gear selection.

90mph in 5th at 3600rpm - 70mph in 4th at 3600 and so on.

thanks guys I did check the same revs in other gears as I wondered myself if it would be the same and it definitely is not. Ive only owned the car for 4 months but none of the wheels are kerbed and I havent bumped any kerbs or anything in it......I presume you can visibly tell if a wheel is buckled? If not then guess only way is to take them in for a balance?

Cropsprayers problem sounds like wheel balance to me and i now get a vibration at tickover.
Looking at the exhaust no6 is awfully close to the chassis this might be the problem need to get it on axle stands to investigate further.

Just letting you all know SC Power have now got the mounts back in stock received mine today.
I was right BTW car failed MOT on broken mount but they let it pass as i had ordered them.
Mainly get a vibration in 5th gear for some reason and when pulling hard.
Saturday job i think

Don't think your MOT station would appreciate that sort of publicity. VOSA wouldn't be long in shutting them down if identified.

Ive now had my wheels checked and balanced (none buckled) and I still have the problem with vibration so any more ideas guys? You feel it from 90mph onwards and it doesnt go away just gets worse and you can feel it in the seat as though its coming from under the car......do the drive shafts get balanced or clutches as thats the only thing I can think of thats spinning and not going the same speed in each gear (as I do not feel this at the same rev range in other gears its purely a speed related issue)??

Could be propshaft these need balancing but still might be engine mounts.

OK thanks ill get out there today and try and check the mounts......I have a copy of GV's workshop manual so I presume that will show me where they are (and im sure they are not easy to see or get to also!).

I did mine twice actually as new mount was faulty but that's another story.
I did the work on a Tuscan but would be the same for a Tam/350.
Axle stands,Trolly jack,some wood and spanners allow half a day.
You have to remove both Wheels,Battery,Chassis plate,Airbox before you can get to the mounts.

So guys still needing help here as my vibration doesnt want to go away. Looked at all the suggestions and had them checked (wheel balancing, buckle checks, engine mounts) and its been in for a service during which they checked everything underneath the car including things like drive shaft and cant see anything wrong. Still every time I get to about 85/90mph I feel a vibration in my seat as though its coming from under the car and it doesnt go away at any speed above that (and ive tried a fair bit higher than that just to check!).

So any ideas would really be welcome....I was thinking maybe somwehere with a rolling road would be able to help but I guess noone is going to want to stick their head under my car to see whats going on when its doing 90 on a rolling road!?!? Obviously my garage that looks after it has said to bring back in for them to go over again which I will.

With all checks done so far, worn diff/halfshaft bearings could still be a possibility, the garage's brief check may not have showed this up?

Only very slight ovality would cause this - had mine changed at 35k (but after numerous competitive standing starts). Same symptoms.

Had very similar problem with my s6 cerb turned out to be a very slightly worn CV joint so changed them both on that shaft. Also a cheap repair as cv joints are only about £25 each and straight forward to do.
