Had a curious experience in McDonald's just. Popped into town and decided I wanted a drink so nipped in and joined the queue, which was possibly three or four deep.

Why the need to have a McDonald's employee at the front directing customers to a till when, well, it's kind of obvious when one becomes free because someone is walking away from the counter with their food?

I know it's fashionable to take the piss out of people with a McJob but there's no shame in hard work, but my god needing to be told when a till is free seems a bit surreal.

Maybe because they can serve you whilst someone is waiting for their food. they don't serve 1 at a time, they can have several orders on the go.

Now I have to admit I'd not thought of that, however when the counter is six feet away I'm not convinced it needs more than a "Can I help you".

Then again I never see the need for that godawful "Cashier number six please" racket in the Post Office, know when you think "However did we used to cope?".

Treat the people like they are thick and they will become thick.
Thick people are easy to sell to.
Thats a simple one.
But just what is this bullst at the post office these days ?
Is the item valued over £22 ? Does it need to be delivered before 12 tomorrow ? Would you like cashback ?
Fukk off ! Were'nt you listening when I said "I'd like to send this first class, mainland UK" ?
Fukking muppets. EIGHT service points and I swear I've NEVER seen more than four staff on at once (and thats when the queue is out the door and several customers have committed suicide...)..........
Withdrawing more than a few quid from the bank ? Expect questions such as "Buying a car ?" or " Going on holiday ?''
Mind your own fukking business.

I agree with the bank. I've been carrying our takings from the previous day across to the bank every working day morning for the past month. I still get harassed daily by staff as I enter asking if I need any help, can they show me the new machine, do I want an account review etc. Its like a gauntlet to get upstairs to Business banking yikeswink

Its a management drive to have staff become more interactive/nosey/ sales driven.
About time they feel the need to work for us now that customers are far more choosy/demanding.

Very true and beneath the cynicism they have helped me out a couple of times though they did delve into the reasons behind my transcation when I bought my car. The phrase, "Its my money..." ended the conversation smile

I used to think that, until on one occasion the elderly lady in front of me turned round and asked me which one cashier number 6 was, as her eyesight wasn't good enough to see whether an empty counter at the other end of the line was empty because the last customer had left or because there was nobody serving.

At that point, I decided that it wasn't too bad a notion.

At my local drive thru a guy comes out with a pda type thing and takes the orders of about 10 cars in the queue

I was quite impressed that the Apple store in London have a similar system.... There was quite a queue, but a young guy came up to me and served me there and then (with an ipod).

I've only used our drive through one time, and we were the only car there, and we ordered a Happy Meal, and collected, and they got the order wrong. Doh!

Next time we went inside, and we were the only people there, and we ordered a Happy Meal, and they got it wrong. Doh!!

Does 'chicken nuggets' actually sound anything like 'cheeseburger' through chav ears? confused

That store reputedly has the highest turnover per sq ft of any in the UK. Their snazzy handheld sales system is very good. Also, scary - bought something in Chicago and they had all my UK details instantly. Not perhaps a computing feat but I've never seen any other firm quite so on top of their customer data.

Apple have to be st hot as most of their products are amongst the best in their sectors but also proprietary, and to an extent a triumph of style over substance. standard PCs can be as good as a Mac, a Creative MP3 player can be as good as an I pod. but buy an apple and it's more

Went for a Maccys earlier. The queue was massive. Walked past and went for a Double Supreme Burger, chips and pint in Wetherspoons instead. Bosh.
