Hi there,

Can anyone tell me what the Audi A3 1.8 (non-turbo) is like to drive & own etc ?
I know it won't be as quick as the turbo version, but I do have insurance & fuel costs in mind .rolleyes I'm hoping to test drive a S-reg soon.

Do you have to keep revving it, to keep it going? Is it a good motorway cruiser?

Cheers in advance.

I've got an S3 but drive my sisters 1.6 sport now and again and to be honest it's pretty respectable - certainly not going to win any races but gets up to speed easily without having to be driven too hard, and will sit at sensible motorway cruising speeds quite happily.

I bought a 1.6 from new back then. Drove both the 1.6 and 1.8 but didn't notice enough difference to justify spending the extra on the 1.8. Added sports suspension though as it made the car ride so much better.

They're alright to be fair, but dont rule out a turbo just yet. Mines not very much to insure.

Also according to the figures the turbo is if more economical, by about 1 MPG so you could offset the fuel savings against the insurance! wink
Seriously though I'd certainly try and get insured on the turbo if at all pos.
