Hmmmm, new format that seems lacking in the necessary amusement/excitement/tension of old. Worse still, no yummy Lisa Rogers, bummer!

Cheers,
Rob

Yeah I know rolleyes

I started a topic about this a while back mourning the loss when I found out that there would be no more proper Scrapheap Challenge.

Scrapheap Challenge was one of my favourite programmes ever, ran from when I was 13 to 23, great fun show. Funny, interesting, competetive and when combined with Top Gear and a Grand Prix made a perfect Sunday of TV.

This new format is st, just a idiots in a feild making stupid comments to camera about wahts going on.

I echo the above sentiments. The new format, having four builds seems to have taken away the camaraderie and fun element, along with the more detailed build content of the previous format. frown

With them seemingly having more time for planning and building the contraptions are less Heath Robinson which is a shame.

That chap 'H' who was waving the chequered flag looked like Mr Softytop the Peter Kay character.

First time I haven't watched an episode all the way through.

Too much smugness, not enough tension.

They seem to have based it on the 'Scrapheap Roadshow' which was terrible. The old format was one of my favourite TV programs ever.

Yes it was and I often wondered how they ever got that past elfin safety, with members of the public clambering over scrap and then trying out cars/boats/planes that frankly looked downright dangerous at times. I thought it was brilliant, but I can't see that getting past the lawyers much longer.

I think the only thing stopping any legal action was the contestants, they didn't seem like the type to call injurylawyers4u every time they fell over.

Didn't protect them from the accountants though frown

yup... I'll have to join you all in mourning the loss of proper Scrapheap challenge frown

The roadshow format worked ok as the occasional special - as a main format its just dire!

I think I was taken in by the shows title. This is not the nutty, joking, not-to-be-taken-seriously programme that I love.

Too much of a muddle. Not enough to keep interest.

I dont know who won and to be honest I gave up caring about half way in and turned it off.

Looking at Wikipedia the world premier was on ABC and going by their message board things dont look too good for them or Dick Strawbridge frown

I think Andy from The Barley Pickers or some other would have been so much better, this just looks like a dead duck.

Such a shame. Season 12? Doubt it.

Didn't even get that far. About five minutes before I lost all interest and turned over.

Does anyone know if the American version Junkyard Wars is still being made?

Finished years ago I think. I preferred the US one to this new series!

I suppose a good team could make for an amusing episode. I'd love to see Dicks teams contraption get absolutely monstered by something the Chaos Crew or the Barley Pickers put together.

That'd be a proper job.

Looking at RL's message board it looks like it was changed due to budget constraints by Channel 4:

I don't think they could have made another series of Scrapheap Challenge as it was, they were scraping the barrel on ideas last series by doing old challenges again to beat previous records. They have made everything every way you possibly could in the heap over the years. They probably ran out of ideas. I can see that the only way forward to be new and fresh was to change the format of the show.

Last weeks challenge of the chariot had been done on SC before and tonight's challenge is a mine retrieving machine, which has been done on the scrapheap too. But doing them in the new team challenge format makes it different.
