E36 318is gearbox swap, will it work?????

Hi guys, just wondering if anyone can tell me will the gearbox from a 1995 316 compact fit my 1997 318 is coupe. I understand the ratios will more than likely be different but will it actually bolt on and work ok?????? My gearbox has started to whine a bit and i have been offered the gearbox from the 316 (mums old car) for free as the car is lying up. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! Ian

They usually put the same ratios in, and just alter the diff ratio for the car.

I'm pretty sure it'll be the same box too aswell
