This will be my first time off the public highway in the Chim and am going to one of the little training day things at North Weald on the 2nd October, hopefully to learn the limits on the car a bit better and have a good laugh smile

Is anyone else there on that day?

Also any tips for a first timer at North Weald (Ive read a few other threads on the subject but anything particular for this place, i hear the surface is pretty bad?)

Is it a Car Limits day you're doing? I went on one of their four-person days there last month, and found it a very useful introduction to track driving. You may find that the car behaves completely differently at the limits of adhesion to what you might expect, and the proper control inputs are often the complete opposite of your instinctive reaction! It was a very steep learning curve (for me anyway, you might be a natural) but I found that the experience was very useful when I got out on track on my own yesterday.

Will be interested to hear what you think of the Carlimits day.
I live just down the road from North Weald and keep thinking I should go and teach myself to drive. biggrin

Well this is only one of the cheap 20 car days, and was only £38 so i though i would give it a punt. Will be worth it just being able to muck about with the car in a legal fashion hehe

Chalk and cheese tho, much better actually doing the 200 day and then practice techniques on the cheaper Hooning days.

Your get some fantastic advice / full 1-2-1 training on the 200 day!

I've done the full day 4 person one and it was fantastic. I learn't loads and loved every minute. Andy Walsh (ex-Benetton F1 test driver) is a great teacher and very patient as well as having a great method of adapting his lessons according to how the pupil learns best!

yup - on this with a few mates from work (M3, Westie etc...) We did one a couple of years ago & had a hoot, demanding respect in a 2.9 Granada and a fantastic '88 Jaaaaaaaggggg.

Great fun and practical environment to see what the car's capable of in a safe environment. At only £38, it's far cheaper and more practical than trying to get to know your car anywhere else.

One quick question:

I can't find anything anywhere, but is there a noise limit for North Weald?

I'm guessing not since there are planes there the rest of the time, but just want to be sue smile

Sorry to jump on this thread but I've got a CarLimits 4 person day which I need to get sold as my TVR T350c is having power steering issues meaning I can't attend a day I've paid up for this Thursday 8th October frown I'm absolutely gutted! You would have thought that 5 weeks was long enough to fix PAS... never mind.

I've been on many days with CarLimits and Andy Walsh and it is an excellent day where you learn a hell of a lot (the activity days which cost £38 are just a taster with no real tuition).

If anyone fancies treating themselves to a day last minute please take my place smile I'm sure some of you who attended the activity day might be tempted! It is showing available on their site at the moment at a cost of £199.

I started this thread about the day: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
