No trips to Nurburgring or Stelvio pass or any other motoring visceral or visual icon on my recent 2500 mile jaunt to the South of France (Port Grimaud) and back with a bit of fun in between.
My 530i with 111,000 miles on the clock, loaded to the gunnels AND with a very large roofbox on top (obviously) managed the trip faultlessly and averaged 29.5mpg over the course of 2.5 weeks. 85mph on the Autoroutes and 0.5 mph down from Cannes to St Tropez, with a various mountain routes in between.
The car was comfortable, fast and economical and I cant praise it enough. Can't think why I would ever need another car (at least whilst I have the kids).

BMWs are great! - A year ago we drove from West Sussex to Monaco via the Gorge de Verdun in the 328i Sport.
3-up, car bulging at the welds with 141K on the clock and it was faultless. Nearly 2000 miles later when we returned The trip was showing 36.4 MPG for the whole lot and including the Gorge bit and all the hills down on the coast.
Looking at a 530i myself now, so thanks for the shove !!

No problems, glad to be of service, its an E39 which I serviced myself before we went. I have had the ubiquitous water pump failure at 80,000 as the only failure in 60,000 miles I've had it. I bought an SE with M Interior and it rides really well though I have upgraded to 17" wheels and 235 tyres. No regrets whatsoever in 3 years so far3-up, car bulging at the welds with 141K on the clock and it was faultless.
