I was looking trough the pistonhead classifieds the other day and came across an ad for a front grill mounted laser jammer. I suppose like most people I dabbled with radar detecters in the 1990's and to honest they were about as much use as a chocolate teapot. looking around the various webpages and forums people do seem to be getting results with the new jammers but.....

So, has anyone here tried the new generation of laser jammers? If so, which one? Is it the bee's knee's or the fish's bike clips?

Yes technically they are illegal, unless its a garage door opener wink

I looked at these when I was using an Origin B2 detector, as it had a hookup point in the loom for a jammer (sorry garage door opener).

The more advanced ones hooked up to a detector so the moment it picked up a laser it activated the jammer but only for enough time for you to slow down. The trick being plod wouldn't necessarily twig you were using one.

The penalties for being caught with one and its debatable effectiveness ruled it out for me.

the laser operator will get a message on the device that tells them the signal is being jammed. the problem being that even if your not speeding you are committing an offence with the jammer. so i dont think its worth it

They do work but as already said they are illegal as your transmitting and wont have a licence to do so. The BIB hate them so they will try throwing the book at you. Only way around it is to actually have a setup at home which utilises the device to open the garage door! I read about someone having to take the BIB back to his house to prove he had the setup, think he got off as well for it.

I prefer to refer to these devices as "accident black spot awareness devices" as that’s where all the "camera safety partnership" otherwise known as “speed cameras” are supposed to be located surely??? In my mind using one of these devices is doubling safety awareness on the roads and should be made totally legal – that’s how Road Angel and alike manage to sell their wares without flouting any laws biggrin

I seem to remember a case where police impounded a chaps car after he foiled a mobile speed trap and he had 27 Garage door Openers fitted to the car.
IIRC he was done under the telecomms act or something, but the fine was big, way more than speeding.

I think you will find, that if you jam their guns they will register your plate, the second time that they catch you, they will do you for evading the law, which is more serious than just a telcom broadcasting issue.

They treat 'jammers' very seriously

There must be a plod on here that can help, this info has been gleened from another site where they had a plod who laid it out in b&w, but that was a while ago, and I can't find a link

They certainly work, and they are likely illegal.Interestingly, it is not illegal to sell them in the US,but they are generally bannedsmile.... I have no connection with the people below but there is a reasonable amount of info there. Most of the US users I have met have the Blinder mentioned below. However, unless you jam on the minute you take the hit you will be busted; normally the jam only lasts a second or two; I have seen some extreme cases where people have a kill switch on their brake lights for this eventuality.

I would be very leery of putting this stuff on especially in the UK.
