Is it just me that thinks the ad with the big eyed youths makes them look cool? Ie sending out the wrong message. I find it very misguided.

Remember, the police can spot the signs.....

I think I could spot some kids looking like aliens too. Pointless advert.

My little boy thought it was an advert for something to keep you wide awake and alert whilst driving hehe

You see, they clearly get people who are incredibly out of touch with the youth.

I'm 16, thence ripe for all the drugs, yet not the driving. Does this advert make me think, 'Wait a minute, what if the police catch me?'

No.

If anything, it pisses me off and makes me want to do the opposite of what the police tell me.

To a teen, the big eyes make it seem like a cartoon. This then makes it seem like they only think they can speak to teens using methods that speak more to children. Which then pisses me off. You can say 'oh but we saw it like this' but in all honesty, if the target audience resent it, you've wasted all the time making the ad.

thats my view on it...

I still find it strange that they don't show the effects on others that drug driving has.
Just that you could get arrested.

To me, the best drunk driving adverts were the ones where you saw someone innocent getting hurt.

It's overblown, as always;

"A study performed for the UK Department of the Environment, Transportation and the Regions by the Transport Research Laboratory, "The Influence of Cannabis on Driving," is available for download in PDF format from this URL: http://www.trl.co.uk/detr/abstracts/477.htm

Or a web version is available at http://www.detr.gov.uk/roads/roadsafety/research16...

The study concludes that though cannabis does have an effect on driving ability, that alcohol is much worse, and that marijuana users notice their impairment and compensate by driving slower and more carefully."

Source; http://www.fcda.org/driving.htm

Also, found this on the BBC;

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/1068625.stm

Key paragraph in that;

"The most obvious effect of the cannabis was that the volunteers drove more slowly, trying to compensate for intoxication by being more cautious.

The volunteers also found it difficult to follow a figure-of-eight loop of road when given a high dose of cannabis.

However, reaction times to motorway hazards were not significantly affected."

So, going by that BBC article, smoking actually reduces speeding....so a case could be put that driving whilst high will reduce road accidents. In fact, I'd go further and say that it is 'Safer' than Speed Cameras smile

P.s.: plenty more info out there on the 'ACTUAL' effects of cannabis, if you do a 10 second google search.

I can imagine something far far worse - attempting to drink drive.

Ok, that would probably be more of a challenge. Depends on the drugs you took though.

Anyone remember the test that fifth gear did when they got a guy to basically do an Autotest sober, then again once he'd had a coulple of spliffs and was nicely toasted.

The result being that he was far better stoned than sober.

biggrin

Funny..... a drug driver was in a collision with a drink driver a few months back however it was the drink driver who was punished despite the drug driver jumping a red light in an attempt to race his Rover 25 against a Punto and changing his story several times.....

Ended up with

Drink Driver - 6years in prison for death by dangerous driving
Drug Driver - no punishment

Funny old world eh? Apparently the judge was very anti-drink driving

I think that 5th gear did an 'experiment' with a drunk vs drug driver, which saw the drug driver actually improving (IIRC). I think this advert may not just be in reference to smoking the reefer, but pills and the like which may not have the same effects.

They didn't necessarily say they were after weed in the ad. People who are on harder drugs IIRC are nightmares behind the wheel however.

It has that 'alcohol isn't a drug simply because it's legal' thing going on, which I don't like.
