I do wonder if he will be back atall. Not sure why Ferrari wouldnt want Kimi and Alonso for next year?? Surely a dream partnership if Alonso can behave.

Wouldn't be surprised if that's not confirmed before the end of this season as well by Ferrari confirming a Kimi/Alonso pairing for next year.

It was also said that there wasn't a chance of him driving. Rumours and speculation are just that.

I'm not saying I believe them, only passing it on. It might have been said just to keep Massa's spirits up.

Why? That should have no effect on his mental or motor function capacity, it's just there to help support the fractured bone. If his eye socket is being supported that might have some effect on his vision, but just because he has some plate in his nonce doesn't rule him out of doing anything at this stage, including driving an F1 car.

Personally I'd be more worried about the ability of his head to withstand another knock like that. I'm assuming the skull won't be as strong as before despite the metal plate (ready to be corrected on this, I'm no doctor!).

Most certainley. He's clearly got further surgery and rehab etc., and until his/Ferrari's/FIA medical bods say a definate no him racing again, (which could be several months hence) publically it will be stated that they expect him to return.

I hope his F1 career isn't over, but, I will be more surprised if does race again, than if he doesn't.

Every injury will be different John, i have a friend who had various plates inserted to repair major damage to his skull following worse impact damage than Massa apears to have been subjected to, he seems to have been OK since. I don't think you can generalise on this which is why i think making statements that he wont ever drive again is a bit silly at this stage.
