EFi Fault !!

Appreciate this has been mentioned before, but normally the problem is water ingress?.
Went for a good run, around an hour, everything ran as sweet as a nut. Stopped off for 4-5 hours, got back in the car, started it up and the EFi warning came up. There had been no rain, and the car hadn't been washed, so no water had got anywhere near the car. Then drove home, and again, the car drove as good as ever - but the EFi warning was almost 99% permanently on, occasionally for a fraction of a second it would go off, but then back on again. Just went out to check again, and the cars been in the garage for a few days, so again no water, and once I start it up, the EFi warning comes on. Any thoughts/ideas ? - Thanks.

mine did it on a lambda fault, take a look with the diag cable and a laptop with diag software, maybe it would tell you if it's a lambda or something else.

Seriously though mine will suddenly start doing it for no reason and then just as suddenly as it started it'll stop. I just turned the sound down on the alarm and press the reset button when it shows up

mine happend after I got jump started by one of those mobile jump thingies. Took it down to Dulfords and they plugged it in aparently the ECU was reporting that every sensor was buggered. A quick reset and all is well.

This has happened a couple of times to me. Both occasions meant a quick trip to the dealer...plug it's brain in & re-set it. Any fault will show up on the lap top when it's plugged in.

Is there anyway to reset it from the dash, or is it a quick trip to a dealer ?.

Mr T. I had the same issue and having an older MK1 I did not have the new style ECU lead connector. After wasting time and money on leads etc I took the car to RG with the ECU accessible. 10 mins later the ECU was re-set with no fault found. Wish I had done this straight away.

mine does this as well,
You can reset the fault codes yourself using a laptop, the diag software and a serial port cable plugged in under the dash.

I made my own cable following the instructions on this forum and reset the codes.

The only gotchas are
1) Make sure you have the engine running to get a connection using the software.
2) Closing the software application down attempts to turn off your laptop. Open a notepad document at the same time which will present a popup window when the laptop attempts to power down. Cancel stops the power down attempt.

Or, hold CTRL+A and close Speed 6 programe.
