Funding Small Time Motorsport Enteries

Hi guys

I have been toying on doing my National B course next summer with the aim to enter a sprint championship the year after. I have worked out the costs in my head (will be entering a road going car so will be looking for a car that can cope with day to day life as well as sprints).

However the one thing that I am trying to get my head around is do people actually make money? I will be doing it just for the fun of it but if I am actually any good then how do you go about funding a dedicated sprint/track car, is it just a case of getting sponsors? If so how do they work do they give you cash for the advertiment (ie decals) or is dicounts the norm?

Cheers for any pointers and advice you guys may have.

sponsors are out of the question almost instantly, unless you have some very rich family members or family friends.

If you just want to do sprinting you don't need to do the nation B course (if you mean the ards test) as you only need a non race national B license.

With regards to funding I would expect it to all come out of your own pocket for sprinting.

You wont make any money from it. Its possible at some events there may be a cash reward for FTD or the like, and some events may offer some Cash in exchange for a trophy if you win your class etc, but no way will it cover your expenses.
You have to look at this as “its for fun”, any financial gain will be minimal.
Sponsorship is Very hard to find at this level.
Are you thinking of using the Tuscan?, mine is sorely tempting me to go back and “have a play”

Thats pretty much what I was thinking. It sadly wont be the tuscan lol not unless Dulfords want to give me free servicing.

Was thinking on a old 1990's Corolla 1.6 gti that way I could enter the toyota sprint champ as well and use it as a daily run about. Plus it being a toyota it should be reliable and have lots of aftermarket bits about.

I bust a gut for sponsorship and to some extent it works if you've got it about you to go to out and get it then support the sponsors throughout the 'deal' to ensure they at least perceive they are getting value for money. One thing I would say though is make sure they are sponsors which can 'relate' to your car or your series. Daft example, but TAG wouldn't sponsor some old banger, but Hammerite might!!

Cool thanks for the advice guys, might ask about and see what I can find. This all depends on if I am any good lol.
