No need to PM anyone - I can categorically state that yes, people live in Dubai.

I lived there for as long as I could take it, which turned out to be 3 months. PM me, or ask questions in the thread.

I'm not going back, personally. I'd give it 20 years before the sands cover what used to be Dubai and frankly it can't come soon enough.

You have to read somewhere between articles like that in the Independant, and the government PR machine here.

There is a Middle East forum you know? If you want to know something, PM me.

Asterix lives there (or did!)

Might be an idea to post in the Middle East forum.

I almost ended up out there last December, there are loads of Expat Forums that are very helpful. Also if you are thinking of moving out there you need to buy the Explorer Book on living in Dubai, a very good read and very informative

TBH, I found PH more useful than Expat forums.

Most of the ones I saw were full of Indian blokes trying to hook up with, well, anyone.

www.expatgaydating.com wasn't the best choice then?

Cheers all. JAYB, I thought so..wasn't 100% you understand.

Might have a opportunity for a job there, and trying to work out if the salary is ok, good or excellent. Of course this depends on the cost of living. I've searched for apartments and think that an ordinary 1 or 2 bed will cost in the region of AED100k a year. Also, a basic car roughly AED1800. Does this sound about right? Would looking a little further out reveal cheaper, less "developed" properties?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Trum..Sorry, Fleegle reschedule beers for tomorrow? Lots to tell.

Discovery Gardens is pretty cheap I believe.

Car is about right for something V basic - I have a Civic sedan mid spec and it's about 2,300AED/month IIRC.

Mate, I can't. I've got a do at a theatre for 'alternative' people.

Much rather have a beer though.
